Divrei-HamYamim Alef (1 Ch) 16
16
1They brought the ark of God in and put it in the tent that David had set up for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. 2When David had finished offering the burnt offering and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Adonai. 3Then he distributed to everyone in Isra’el, to everyone there, both men and women, a loaf of bread, a portion of meat and a raisin cake.
4He appointed certain L’vi’im to serve in front of the ark of Adonai, to celebrate, and to thank and praise Adonai the God of Isra’el: 5Asaf, the leader; assisting him, Z’kharyah; then Ye‘i’el, Sh’miramot, Yechi’el, Mattityahu, Eli’av, B’nayahu, ‘Oved-Edom and Ye‘i’el playing lutes and lyres, while Asaf played cymbals. 6B’nayah and Yachzi’el the cohanim blew the trumpets continually before the ark for the covenant of God. 7It was on that same day that David first ordered that thanks be given to Adonai through Asaf and his kinsmen:
8Give thanks to Adonai! Call on his name!
Make his deeds known among the peoples.
9Sing to him, sing praises to him!
Talk about all his wonders.
10Glory in his holy name;
let those seeking Adonai have joyful hearts.
11Seek Adonai and his strength;
always seek his presence.
12Remember the wonders he has done,
his signs and his spoken judgments.
13You descendants of Isra’el his servant,
you offspring of Ya‘akov, his chosen ones:
14he is Adonai our God,
His judgments are everywhere on earth.
15Remember his covenant forever,
the word he commanded to a thousand generations,
16the covenant he made with Avraham;
the oath he swore to Yitz’chak
17and established as a law for Ya‘akov,
for Isra’el as an everlasting covenant:
18“To you I will give the land of Kena‘an
as your allotted heritage.”
19When you were but few in number,
and not only few, but aliens there too,
20wandering from nation to nation,
from this kingdom to that people,
21he allowed no one to oppress them.
Yes, for their sakes he rebuked even kings:
22“Don’t touch my anointed ones
or do my prophets harm!”
23Sing to Adonai, all the earth!
Proclaim his victory day after day!
24Declare his glory among the nations,
his wonders among all peoples!
25For Adonai is great, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared more than all gods.
26For all the gods of the peoples are nothing,
but Adonai made the heavens.
27In his presence are honor and majesty;
in his place, strength and joy.
28Give Adonai his due, you families from the peoples,
give Adonai his due of glory and strength;
29give Adonai the glory due to his name;
bring an offering, and come into his presence.
Worship Adonai in splendid, holy attire.
30Tremble before him, all the earth!
The world is firmly established, immovable.
31Let the heavens rejoice; let the earth be glad;
let them say among the nations, “Adonai is king!”
32Let the sea roar, and everything in it;
let the fields exult, and all that is in them.
33Then the trees in the forest will sing before Adonai,
because he has come to judge the earth.
34Give thanks to Adonai; for he is good,
for his grace continues forever.
35Say: “Save us, God who can save us!
Gather and rescue us from the nations;
so that we can thank your holy name
and glory in praising you.
36Blessed be Adonai, the God of Isra’el,
from eternity past to eternity future!”
All the people said, “Amen!” and praised Adonai.
37So, there before the ark for the covenant of Adonai, David left Asaf and his kinsmen to perform the service regularly before the ark, as each day’s work required; 38also ‘Oved-Edom with their kinsmen, sixty-eight of them — ‘Oved-Edom the son of Y’dutun and Hosah were gatekeepers.
39He left Tzadok the cohen with his kinsmen before the tabernacle of Adonai at the high place in Giv‘on 40to offer burnt offerings to Adonai every morning and evening on the altar for burnt offerings, according to everything written in the Torah of Adonai, which he gave to Isra’el. 41With them were Heman and Y’dutun and the rest who were chosen and assigned by name to give thanks to Adonai, because his grace continues forever. 42With them were Heman and Y’dutun to play trumpets and cymbals, also instruments for the songs about God; while the sons of Y’dutun were assigned to the gate.
43Then the people all left for their homes, and David returned to bless his household.

1They put the sacred chest inside the tent that David had set up for it, then they offered sacrifices to please the Lord#16.1 sacrifices to please the Lord: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “whole burnt offerings” because the whole animal was burned on the altar. A main purpose of such sacrifices was to please the Lord with the smell of the sacrifice, and so in the CEV they are often called “sacrifices to please the Lord.” and sacrifices to ask his blessing.#16.1 sacrifices to ask his blessing: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “peace offerings” or “offerings of well-being.” A main purpose was to ask for the Lord's blessing, and so in the CEV they are sometimes called “sacrifices to ask the Lord's blessing.” 2After David had finished, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord 3and gave every person in the crowd a small loaf of bread, some meat, and a handful of raisins.
4David appointed some of the Levites to serve at the sacred chest; they were to play music and sing praises to the Lord God of Israel. 5Asaph was their leader, and Zechariah was his assistant. Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and another man named Jeiel were appointed to play small harps and stringed instruments. Asaph himself played the cymbals, 6and the two priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets every day in front of the sacred chest.
David's Song of Praise
(Psalms 105.1-15; 96.1-13; 106.1,47,48)
7That same day, David instructed Asaph and his relatives for the first time to sing these praises to the Lord:
8Praise the Lord
and pray in his name!
Tell everyone
what he has done.
9Sing praises to the Lord!
Tell about his miracles.
10Celebrate and worship
his holy name
with all your heart.
11Trust the Lord
and his mighty power.
Worship him always.
12Remember his miracles
and all his wonders
and his fair decisions.
13You belong to the family
of Israel, his servant;
you are his chosen ones,
the descendants of Jacob.
14The Lord is our God,
bringing justice
everywhere on earth.
15We must never forget
his agreement and his promises,
not in thousands of years.
* 16#Gn 12.7; Gn 26.3; Gn 28.13. God made an eternal promise
17to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
18when he said, “I'll give you
the land of Canaan.”
19At the time there were
only a few of us,
and we were homeless.
20We wandered from nation
to nation, from one country
to another.
21 #
Gn 20.3-7. God did not let anyone
mistreat our people.
Instead he protected us
by punishing rulers
22and telling them,
“Don't touch my chosen leaders
or harm my prophets!”
23Everyone on this earth,
sing praises to the Lord.
Day after day announce,
“The Lord has saved us!”
24Tell every nation on earth,
“The Lord is wonderful
and does marvelous things!
25The Lord is great and deserves
our greatest praise!
He is the only God
worthy of our worship.
26Other nations worship idols,
but the Lord created
the heavens.
27Give honor and praise
to the Lord,
whose power and beauty
fill his holy temple.”
28Tell everyone of every nation,
“Praise the glorious power
of the Lord.
29He is wonderful! Praise him
and bring an offering
into his temple.
Worship the Lord,
majestic and holy.
30Everyone on earth, now tremble!”
The world stands firm,
never to be shaken.
31Tell the heavens and the earth
to be glad and celebrate!
And announce to the nations,
“The Lord is King!”
32Command the ocean to roar
with all of its creatures
and the fields to rejoice
with all of their crops.
33Then every tree in the forest
will sing joyful songs
to the Lord.
He is coming to judge
all people on earth.

After David finished, the people shouted, “Amen! Praise the Lord!”
David Appoints Worship Leaders at Jerusalem and Gibeon
37David chose Asaph and the Levites in his clan to be in charge of the daily worship at the place where the sacred chest was kept. 38Obed-Edom and 68 of his relatives were their assistants, and Hosah and Obed-Edom the son of Jeduthun were the guards.
39David also chose Zadok the priest and his relatives who were priests to serve at the Lord's sacred tent at Gibeon. 40They were to offer sacrifices on the altar every morning and evening, just as the Lord had commanded in the Law he gave Israel. 41#2 Ch 5.11-13; 3 Macc 6.32.
