Psalms 56
56
For the Music Director. To the melody of “Silent Dove at a Distance.” A Miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
1Be gracious to me, O God, # Ps 57:1–3 for man would trample on me;
fighting all day long he oppresses me.
2My enemies would trample on me all day long,
for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.
3When I am afraid, # Ps 55:4–5
I will trust in You.
4In God, whose word I praise,
in God have I put my trust; I will not fear.
What can mere flesh do to me? # Ps 118:6; Heb 13:6
5All day they twist my words; # 2Pe 3:16
all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6They stir up strife, they lurk,
they watch my steps,
when they wait for my life. # Ps 59:3; 71:10
7For their wickedness will they escape?
In Your anger cast down the peoples, O God. # Ps 55:23
8You keep count of my wanderings;
put my tears in Your bottle; # 2Ki 20:5
are they not in Your book? # Mal 3:16
9Then my enemies will turn back
in the day when I call; # Ps 102:2
this I know, that God is for me. # Ro 8:31
10In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11in God have I put my trust; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
12My vows to You are binding upon me, O God;
I will render thank offerings to You; # Ps 50:14
13for You have delivered my soul from death,
and kept my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of the living. # Job 33:30; Ps 116:8–9
