Psalms 137
137
1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept # Eze 1:1
when we remembered Zion.
2Upon the willows in the midst of it
we hung our harps. # Isa 24:8; Eze 26:13
3For there, those who carried us away captive required of us songs,
and our plunderers, mirth,
saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4How shall we sing the song of the Lord
in a foreign land?
5If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand forget its cunning!
6If I do not remember you,
let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, # Ps 22:15; Eze 3:26
if I prefer not Jerusalem
above my highest joy.
7Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites # Jer 49:7–22; La 4:21–22
the day of Jerusalem,
who said, “Raze it, raze it,
to its foundation!”
8O daughter of Babylon, destined to be destroyed, # Isa 13
blessed shall he be who rewards you
as you have served us! # Rev 18:6
9Blessed shall he be who takes
your little ones and dashes them against the rocks! # 2Ki 8:12; Isa 13:16; Hos 13:16
