13
1A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, # Pr 10:1; 15:20
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
2A man will eat well by the fruit of his words, # Pr 1:31; 12:14
but the soul of the unfaithful desires violence.
3He who guards his mouth preserves his life, # Pr 21:23
but he who opens wide his lips will come to ruin.
4The soul of the sluggard desires and gets nothing,
but the soul of the diligent will be made fat. # Pr 10:4
5A righteous man hates lying, # Col 3:9
but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace. # Pr 3:35
6Righteousness guards him whose way is upright,

8The ransom of a man’s life is his wealth,
but a poor man hears no threat.
9The light of the righteous shines brightly,

10By pride comes only contention,
but with the teachable is wisdom.

but he who gathers by hand will increase it.
12Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but the desire fulfilled is a tree of life. # Pr 3:18
13He who despises instruction will be destroyed, # Nu 15:31; 2Ch 36:16
but he who respects a commandment will be rewarded.
14The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, # Pr 10:11; 14:27
to turn a man away from the snares of death.

but the way of traitors is their destruction.
16Every prudent man acts with knowledge,
but a fool displays his folly. # Pr 15:2; Ecc 10:3
17A wicked messenger falls into trouble,
but a faithful envoy brings healing. # Pr 25:13
18Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains instruction,
but he who heeds reproof will be honored. # Pr 15:5, 31–32
19The desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul,
but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

22A good man leaves an inheritance to his sons’ children,

but by injustice it is swept away.
24He who spares his rod hates his son,

25The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul,
