The Prophet’s Anguish
1#Ps 88:7; Job 19:21 I am the man who has seen affliction
by the rod of His wrath.
2#Job 30:26; Isa 59:9 He has driven and brought me
into darkness without any light.
3Surely against me has He turned His hand
continually, the whole day long.
4#Ps 51:8; Isa 38:13 My flesh and my skin He has made waste away;
He has broken my bones;
5#La 3:19; Jer 23:15 He has besieged and enveloped me
with gall and travail.
6#Ps 88:5–6; 143:3 He has set me in dark places,
like the dead of long ago.
7#Job 3:23; 19:8 He has hedged me in so that I cannot get out;
He has made my chain heavy.
8#Job 30:20; Ps 22:2 Even when I cry for help,
He shuts out my prayer.
9#Isa 63:17 He has blocked my ways with hewn stone;
He has made my paths crooked.
10He is to me a bear lying in wait,
a lion in hiding.

65#Isa 6:10; Dt 2:30 Give them hardness of heart;
may Your curse be upon them!
66#Ps 8:3; Dt 25:19 In Your anger pursue and destroy them
from under Your heavens, O Lord!
