2 Kings 4:39-41

John's gospel can be broken into four parts: an Introduction (John 1:-1:18), the Book of signs (1:19-12:50), the Book of exaltation (13:1-20:31) and an Epilogue (chapter 21). In this Seven Day study we will study the 7 “Signs” of Jesus, and the 7 “I AM" statements of Jesus, to demonstrate that John structured his book in a way that helps the reader see that Jesus fulfills the ministry of Elisha.

Ephesians 4:8 says that when Jesus ascended to Heaven, He gave gifts to men. These gifts are the ministry gifts of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. Each one has a specific function and is necessary in building up the Body of Christ. This plan focuses on the vital but often misunderstood roles of the apostle and the prophet; what they are and what their purpose is.

Elisha is one of the most fascinating people found in God’s word. He was a prophet whose faith and miracles seem almost ridiculous. During this 13-day reading plan you will read through the life of Elisha and learn from his example of what life can look like when you let go and decide to live with ridiculous faith.

What began as a victorious return to the land in Joshua ends in destruction, defeat, and exile in 2 Kings. The idolatry and sinfulness of Israel and Judah lead to their expulsion from the land - a final ignominy in a long history of unfaithfulness. Yet even in exile, God was preserving his people and the line of David for a future coming King, whose reign would know no end.
