Luke 17

Jesus Warns of Offenses
1Then He said to the disciples, #(1 Cor. 11:19)“It is impossible that no offenses should come, but #Matt. 18:6, 7; 26:24; Mark 9:42; (2 Thess. 1:6); Jude 11woe to him through whom they do come! 2It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. 3Take heed to yourselves. #(Matt. 18:15, 21)If your brother sins against you, #Lev. 19:17; (Prov. 17:10; Gal. 6:1; James 5:19, 20)rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 4And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”
Faith and Duty
5And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
6#Matt. 17:20; 21:21; (Mark 9:23; 11:23); Luke 13:19So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. 7And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? 8But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself #(Luke 12:37)and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? 9Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. 10So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are #Job 22:3; 35:7; Ps. 16:2; Matt. 25:30; Rom. 3:12; 11:35; (1 Cor. 9:16, 17); Philem. 11unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ”
Ten Lepers Cleansed
11Now it happened #Luke 9:51, 52; John 4:4as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, #Lev. 13:46; Num. 5:2who stood afar off. 13And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14So when He saw them, He said to them, #Lev. 13:1–59; 14:1–32; Matt. 8:4; Luke 5:14“Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice #Luke 5:25; 18:43glorified God, 16and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a #2 Kin. 17:24; Luke 9:52, 53; John 4:9Samaritan.
17So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19#Matt. 9:22; Mark 5:34; 10:52; Luke 7:50; 8:48; 18:42And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
The Coming of the Kingdom
20Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21#Luke 17:23nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, #(Rom. 14:17)the kingdom of God is within you.”
22Then He said to the disciples, #Matt. 9:15; Mark 2:20; Luke 5:35; (John 17:12)“The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23#Matt. 24:23; Mark 13:21; (Luke 21:8)And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ Do not go after them or follow them. 24#Matt. 24:27For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25#Matt. 26:67; 27:29–31; Mark 8:31; 9:31; 10:33But first He must suffer many things and be #Luke 9:22rejected by this generation. 26#Matt. 24:37–39And as it #(Gen. 6:5–7)was in the #(Gen. 6:8–13)days of #1 Pet. 3:20Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the #Gen. 7:1–16day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and #Gen. 7:19–23destroyed them all. 28#Gen. 19Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29but on #Gen. 19:16, 24, 29; 2 Pet. 2:6, 7the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man #(Matt. 16:27); 1 Cor. 1:7; (Col. 3:4; 2 Thess. 1:7); 1 Pet. 1:7; 4:13; 1 John 2:28is revealed.
31“In that day, he #Matt. 24:17, 18; Mark 13:15who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32#Gen. 19:26Remember Lot’s wife. 33#Matt. 10:39; 16:25; Mark 8:35; Luke 9:24; John 12:25Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34#Matt. 24:40, 41; (1 Thess. 4:17)I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35#Matt. 24:40, 41Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”
37And they answered and said to Him, #Job 39:30; Matt. 24:28“Where, Lord?”
So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”
