Romans 3
1¶ What advantage then has the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
2Much in every way: first, certainly, that the oracles of God have been entrusted unto them.
3For what if some of them did not believe? Shall their unbelief have made the truth of God without effect?
4No, in no wise: for God is true, and every man a liar; as it is written, That thou might be justified in thy words and might overcome when thou dost judge.
5And if our iniquity commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Shall for this reason God be unjust who sends punishment? (I speak as a man.)
6No, in no wise: for then how shall God judge the world?
7For if the truth of God has more abounded through my lie unto his glory, why even so am I also judged as a sinner?
8And why not say (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? The condemnation of whom is just.
9What then? Are we better than they? No, in no wise; for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin;
10as it is written, There is no one righteous, no, not one;
11there is no one that understands; there is no one that seeks after God.
12They are all gone out of the way; they are together become unprofitable; there is no one that does good, no, not one.
13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips,
14whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness;
15their feet are swift to shed blood;
16destruction and misery are in their ways,
17and the way of peace they have not known;
18there is no fear of God before their eyes.
19¶ Now we know that all that the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may submit themselves unto God.
20For by the deeds of the law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight; for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21But now, without the law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets:
22the righteousness, that is, of God by the faith of Jesus, the Christ, for all and upon all those that believe in him, for there is no difference;
23for all have sinned and are made destitute of the glory of God,
24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Jesus, the Christ,
25whom God purposed for reconciliation through faith in his blood for the manifestation of his righteousness, for the remission of sins that are past, by the patience of God,
26manifesting in this time his righteousness that he only be the just one and the justifier of him that is of the faith of Jesus.
27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? No, but by the law of faith.
28Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also,
30seeing it is one God who shall justify the circumcision by faith and the uncircumcision by faith.
31Do we then make void the law through faith? No, in no wise; to the contrary, we establish the law.

Romans 3

1So does a Jew have any advantage? Does circumcision have any benefits? 2Yes, there are many benefits! First of all, God's message was entrusted to them. 3What if some of them didn't trust in God? Does their lack of trust in God obliterate the trustworthiness of God? 4Of course not! Even if everyone else is proved to be lying, God always tells the truth. As Scripture says, “What you say will be proved right, and you will win your case#3:4. Or “you will be vindicated.” when you are judged.”#3:4. Quoting Psalms 51:4.
5But if the fact that we're wrong helps to show that God is right, what should we conclude? That God is wrong to pronounce judgment on us? (I'm talking from a human perspective here.) 6Of course not! How else could God judge the world? 7Someone could say, “Why am I still condemned as a sinner if my lies make the truth of God and his glory more obvious in contrast?” 8Is it a case of, “Let's sin to bring about good”? That's what some people have slanderously accused us of saying. They should be rightly condemned!
9So then, are we Jews better than others? Definitely not! Remember that we've already argued that both Jews and foreigners are under the control of sin. 10As Scripture says, “No one does what is right, not even one. 11No one understands; no one seeks God. 12Everyone has turned their backs on him; everyone does what is totally wrong. No one does what is good, not a single one. 13Their throats are like an open grave; their tongues spread deceit; their lips ooze with the venom of snakes. 14Their mouths are full of bitterness and curses, 15and they are quick to cause pain and death. 16Their way leads to disaster and misery; 17they don't know how to live in peace. 18They don't care about respecting God at all.”#3:18. This passage from verses 12 to 18 includes references to Psalms 14:1-3, Psalms 5:9, Psalms 140:3, Psalms 10:7, Isaiah 59:7-8, Proverbs 1:16, Psalms 36:1.
19It's clear that everything in the law applies to those who live under the law so that no one could have any excuses, and to make sure everyone in the whole world is answerable to God. 20For no one is made right before God by doing what the law requires. The law only helps us recognize what sin really is.
21But now God's character of goodness and right#3:21. See under 1:17. Also 3:22. has been demonstrated. It has nothing to do with law-keeping, even though it was spoken of by the law and the prophets. 22This character of God that is good and right comes to everyone who trusts in Jesus Christ, those who place their confidence in him. It doesn't matter who we are: 23We have all sinned, and we fall far short of God's glorious ideal. 24Yet through the free gift of his grace, God makes us right through Christ Jesus who sets us free. 25God openly presented Jesus as the gift that brings peace#3:25. “The gift that brings peace”: the way in which God forgives, heals, and restores harmony. to those trusting in him, the one who shed his blood. God did this to demonstrate he is truly good and right, for previously he would hold back and pass over sins, 26but now at this present time God proves he is fair and does what is right, and that he makes right those who trust in Jesus.
27So do we have anything to boast about then? Absolutely not, there's no place for that! And why's that? Is it because we follow the law of observing requirements? No, we follow the law of trusting in God. 28We conclude that people are made right with God through their trust in him, and not from legal observance. 29Is God only the God of the Jews? Isn't he the God of other people as well? Of course he is! 30There is only one God, and he makes us morally right through our trust in him, whoever we are, Jew or foreigner. 31Does that mean that by trusting in God we do away with the law? Of course not! In fact we affirm the importance of the law.
