Romans 2

Romans 2
1¶ Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest; for in that which thou dost judge another, thou dost condemn thyself; for thou that judgest others doest the same things.
2For we are sure that the judgment of God is according to the truth against those who do such things.
3And dost thou think this, O man, that judgest those who do such things and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4Or dost thou despise the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, ignoring that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance?
5But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasures up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6who will render to everyone according to his deeds:
7to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;
8but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.
9Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;
10but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11For there is no respect of persons with God.
12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law
13(for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified;
14for when the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature that which is of the law, these, not having the law, are a law unto themselves;
15which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, accusing and also excusing their reasonings one with another)
16in the day when God shall judge that which men have covered up, according to my gospel by Jesus, the Christ.
17¶ Behold, thou doth call thyself a Jew and art supported by the law and doth glory in God
18and dost know his will and approve the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law,
19and art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of those who are in darkness,
20an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of children, who hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21Thou, therefore, who teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? Thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? Thou that dost abhor idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
23Thou that makest thy boast of the law, with rebellion to the law doth thou dishonour God?
24For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25For circumcision verily profits if thou keep the law, but if thou art a rebel to the law, thy circumcision is made into a foreskin.
26Therefore if the uncircumcised keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his foreskin be counted for circumcision?
27And that which is by nature foreskin, but keeps the law perfectly, shall judge thee who with the letter and with the circumcision art rebellious to the law.
28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is circumcision that which is done outwardly in the flesh;
29but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Romans 2
2
1So if you judge others you don't have any excuse, whoever you are! For in whatever way you condemn others, you're judging yourself, because you're doing the same things. 2We know that God's judgment on those who do such things is based on truth. 3When you judge them do you really think that you however can avoid God's judgment? 4Or is it that you're treating his wonderful kindness, tolerance, and patience with contempt, not realizing that God in his kindness is trying to lead you to repent? 5Due to your hard-hearted attitude and your refusal to repent, you're making things far worse for yourself on the day of retribution when God's judgment is demonstrated to be absolutely right. 6God will make sure everyone receives what they deserve according to what they've done.#2:6. Quoting Psalms 62:12. 7Those who have kept on trying to do what is good and right will receive glory and honor, immortality and eternal life. 8But those who think only of themselves, rejecting the truth and deliberately choosing to do evil, will receive punishment and furious hostility. 9Everyone who does evil will have trouble and suffering—the Jewish people first, and the foreigners too. 10But everyone who does good will have glory, honor, and peace—the Jewish people first, and the foreigners too. 11God has no favorites.
12Those who sin even though they don't have the written law#2:12. Referring to the law written down by Moses. Those who don't have the written law are the “foreigners,” while those who have the written law are the Jews. are still lost, while those who sin that do have the written law will be condemned by that law. 13Just listening to what the law says doesn't make you right in God's sight. It's those who do what the law says who are made right. 14The foreigners don't have the written law, but when they instinctively do what it says, they are following the law even without having the written law. 15In this way they show how the law works that's written in their minds. As they think about what they're doing, their conscience either accuses them for doing wrong or defends them for doing what is good and right. 16The good news I share is that a day is coming when God will judge, through Jesus Christ, everyone's secret thoughts.
17What about you who call yourself a Jew? You rely on the written law and boast about having a special relationship to God. 18You know what he wants; you do what's right because you've been taught from the law. 19You're absolutely sure that you can guide the blind, and that you are a light to those in darkness. 20You think you can set ignorant people straight, a teacher of “children,” because you know from the law all the truth there is to know. 21So if you're busy teaching others, why don't you teach yourself? You tell people not to steal, but are you stealing? 22You tell people not to commit adultery, but are you committing adultery? You tell people not to worship idols, but do you profane temples?#2:22. Or “rob temples.”
23You boast about having the law, but don't you misrepresent God by breaking it? 24As Scripture says, “God's character is defamed among the foreigners because of you.”#2:24. Quoting Isaiah 52:5. Literally, “the name of God,” which has primarily to do with his character. 25Being circumcised#2:25. Circumcision, given by God to Israel in the Old Testament, was a sign that they were his special people. has value only if you do what the law says. But if you break the law, your circumcision is as worthless as those who are not circumcised at all. 26If a man who is not circumcised#2:26. Not circumcised, meaning a non-Jew or “foreigner.” keeps the law, he should be considered as being circumcised even though he's not. 27The uncircumcised foreigners who keep the law will condemn you if you break the law, even though you have the written law and circumcision. 28It's not what's on the outside that makes you a Jew; it's not the physical sign of circumcision. 29What makes you a Jew is on the inside, a “circumcision of the heart” that doesn't follow the letter of the law but the Spirit. Someone like that is looking for praise from God, not from people.
