Chambers for the Temple
1 Then he led me out to the outer court, toward the north, and brought me to the chamber which was opposite the courtyard and opposite the building on the north. 2 Its length was 175 feet#tn Heb “one hundred cubits” (i.e., 52.5 meters). on the north side,#tn Heb “the door of the north.” and its width 87½ feet.#tn Heb “fifty cubits” (i.e., 26.25 meters). 3 Opposite the 35 feet#tn Heb “twenty cubits” (i.e., 10.5 meters). that belonged to the inner court, and opposite the pavement which belonged to the outer court, gallery faced gallery in the three stories. 4 In front of the chambers was a walkway on the inner side, 17½ feet#tn Heb “ten cubits” (i.e., 5.25 meters). wide at a distance of 1¾ feet,#tc Heb “one cubit” (i.e., 52.5 cm). The LXX and the Syriac read “one hundred cubits” (= 175 feet). and their entrances were on the north. 5 Now the upper chambers were narrower, because the galleries took more space from them than from the lower and middle chambers of the building. 6 For they were in three stories and had no pillars like the pillars of the courts; therefore the upper chambers#tn The phrase “upper chambers” is not in the Hebrew text but is supplied from the context. were set back from the ground more than the lower and upper ones. 7 As for the outer wall by the side of the chambers, toward the outer court facing the chambers, it was 87½ feet#tn Heb “fifty cubits” (i.e., 26.25 meters). long. 8 For the chambers on the outer court were 87½ feet#tn Heb “fifty cubits” (i.e., 26.25 meters). long, while those facing the temple were 175 feet#tn Heb “one hundred cubits” (i.e., 52.5 meters). long. 9 Below these chambers was a passage on the east side as one enters from the outer court.
10 At the beginning#tc The reading is supported by the LXX. of the wall of the court toward the south,#tc This reading is supported by the LXX; the MT reads “east.” facing the courtyard and the building, were chambers 11 with a passage in front of them. They looked like the chambers on the north. Of the same length and width, and all their exits according to their arrangements and entrances 12 were the chambers#tc The MT apparently evidences dittography, repeating most of the last word of the previous verse: “and like the openings of.” which were toward the south. There was an opening at the head of the passage, the passage in front of the corresponding wall toward the east when one enters.
13 Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers which face the courtyard are holy chambers where the priests#sn The priests are from the Zadokite family (Ezek 40:6; 44:15). who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings – the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering, because the place is holy. 14 When the priests enter, then they will not go out from the sanctuary to the outer court without taking off their garments in which they minister, for these are holy; they will put on other garments, then they will go near the places where the people are.”
15 Now when he had finished measuring the interior of the temple, he led me out by the gate which faces east and measured all around. 16 He measured the east side with the measuring stick#tn Heb “reed” (also in the following verses). as 875 feet#tn Heb “five hundred cubits” (i.e., 262.5 meters). by the measuring stick. 17 He measured the north side as 875 feet by the measuring stick. 18 He measured the south side as 875 feet by the measuring stick. 19 He turned to the west side and measured 875 feet by the measuring stick. 20 He measured it on all four sides. It had a wall around it, 875 feet long and 875 feet wide, to separate the holy and common places.

Ezekiel 42
42
Chambers for the Priests
1Then the man led me out northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple courtyard and the outer wall on the north side. 2The building with the door facing north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.#42:2 The building was approximately 175 feet long and 87.5 feet wide (53.3 meters long and 26.7 meters wide). 3Gallery faced gallery in three levels opposite the twenty cubits#42:3 20 (long) cubits is approximately 35 feet or 10.7 meters. that belonged to the inner court and opposite the pavement that belonged to the outer court.
4In front of the chambers was an inner walkway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits long.#42:4 LXX. The walkway was approximately 17.5 feet wide and 175 feet long (5.3 meters wide and 53.3 meters long). Hebrew ten cubits wide and a cubit long. Their doors were on the north.
5Now the upper chambers were smaller because the galleries took more space from the chambers on the lower and middle floors of the building. 6For they were arranged in three stories, and unlike the courts, they had no pillars. So the upper chambers were set back further than the lower and middle floors. 7An outer wall in front of the chambers was fifty cubits long and ran parallel to the chambers and the outer court. 8For the chambers on the outer court were fifty cubits long, while those facing the temple were a hundred cubits long. 9And below these chambers was the entrance on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.
10On the south side#42:10 LXX; Hebrew east side along the length of the wall of the outer court were chambers adjoining the courtyard and opposite the building, 11with a passageway in front of them, just like the chambers that were on the north. They had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions. 12And corresponding to the doors of the chambers that were facing south, there was a door in front of the walkway that was parallel to the wall extending eastward.
13Then the man said to me, “The north and south chambers facing the temple courtyard are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings— the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings— for the place is holy. 14Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
The Outer Measurements
15Now when the man had finished measuring the interior of the temple area, he led me out by the gate that faced east, and he measured the area all around:
16With a measuring rod he measured the east side to be five hundred cubits long.#42:16 See LXX; five hundred cubits from verse 17 LXX and implied in verses 16, 18, 19, and 20 is approximately 875 feet or 266.7 meters in length. Hebrew five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about, that is approximately 5,250 feet or 1,600 meters; similarly in verses 17, 18, 19, and 20.
17He measured the north side to be five hundred cubits long.
18He measured the south side to be five hundred cubits long.
19And he came around and measured the west side to be five hundred cubits long.
20So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.
