“A new commandment I am giving to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all people will come to know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

If I then, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, so that you also should do just as I have done for you.

Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not presently understand, but you will understand after these things.”

Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

If you understand these things, blessed are you if you do them.

got up from the dinner and laid aside His* outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around Himself. Then He poured water into the basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them dry with the towel which He had tied around Himself.
