Very early in the morning, while it was still dark before dawn, Jesus got up, left the house, and went out to a deserted place where He could be alone. There He was praying to the Father.

His message was: "The appointed time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent by turning from your sins and believe in this good news."

Immediately as Jesus was coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens being torn open as God revealed Himself. He saw the Spirit descending like a dove and coming upon Him. A voice spoke from heaven, declaring, "You are My Son, the beloved One in whom I take infinite delight and with whom I am well pleased."

I have baptised you with water as a sign of repentance, but He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit, bringing true spiritual transformation and power."

Jesus said to them, "Come, follow Me as My disciples, and I will transform you and make you into fishers of men—catching people for the kingdom of God." At once, without hesitation, they left their nets and everything they knew and followed Him.

The people were utterly amazed at His teaching, for He was teaching them as one who possessed inherent authority, not like the scribes who merely quoted other rabbis and traditions.
