"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, and indeed even his own life, he is unable to be My disciple.

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me is unable to be My disciple.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

So in the same manner, any among you who does not renounce all his possessions is unable to be My disciple."

For which among you, intending to construct a tower, does not first sit down and compute the expense to determine whether he has sufficient resources to finish it? Otherwise, having laid the foundation and proving unable to complete the project, all who observe will start ridiculing him, declaring, 'This person initiated construction but lacked the ability to bring it to completion.'

Rather, when you host a feast, extend invitations to the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then you will experience blessing, because they lack the means to repay you. You will receive your reward at the resurrection of the righteous."

Salt is excellent and beneficial, but if the salt becomes tasteless, by what means can its flavour be restored? It proves suitable neither for the ground nor for the compost heap. People discard it. Let the one who has ears for hearing, hear."
