How Should The Church Help the Needy
As Paul lays out in 1 Timothy 5:4, charity is primarily the responsibility of those closest to the need. So, when a society works well and is empowering all its citizens, it is first the family and then the church who steps in to help; the government acts simply as a safety net. When government takes over the role of primary helper, it leaves its citizens dependent. Today, we pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to come upon the church so that we can boldly provide accountability and compassion for those in need.
