Sinisikap niyang makita si Jesus upang makilala kung sino ito, ngunit sa dami ng tao, hindi niya ito makita dahil sa siya'y pandak. Kaya't patakbo siyang nauna sa dadaanan ni Jesus at umakyat sa isang puno ng sikamoro. Pagtapat ni Jesus sa lugar na iyon, tumingala siya kay Zaqueo at sinabi, “Zaqueo, bumabâ ka agad sapagkat kailangan kong tumuloy ngayon sa iyong bahay.” Nagmamadaling bumabâ si Zaqueo, at tuwang-tuwang tinanggap si Jesus sa kanyang bahay.
