God is kind
Here’s a question for you: Do you love God? It’s kind of hard to love someone whom you feel is judging you and condemning you, especially since you know you deserve his anger and punishment.
But guess what? The God who is holy is also the God who is kind. He commissioned his Son, Jesus, to rescue the world from hell and the grave. One of the Bible’s favorite names for Jesus is Messiah. This name refers to the one who has been anointed or commissioned by God. John tells us how God showed us his kindness and love: “This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10).
Jesus is your Messiah. It was for just such a person as you, and for just such a time as this, that he suffered, died, and rose again from the dead. How can you not love someone who would do all that for you?
