Hebrews 4:12 says that “the word of God is alive and active”. To emphasise this truth, the Bible itself describes God’s word in various ways. This devotional will take a survey of these various “symbols” and hopefully ignite your passion afresh for the God-breathed scriptures.

This plan is a challenge to run the “race set before us” mentioned in Hebrews 12:1 in a way that will cause the fearful crowd in this world who are watching us to notice a difference in our lives. We will use 5 direct quotes from Jesus in Luke chapter 12 to guide our discussions and draw out our thoughts in these uncertain and often troubling times.

Based on Hebrews 12, this plan compares running a literal race with the spiritual race that is “set before us.” It discusses the training disciplines, challenges, and what winning looks like based on Who set the race according to Ephesians 2:10.

This will be a general and scriptural study focusing on the gifts of the Spirit that are given to Christ-followers to help us as we run The Race Set Before Us as mentioned in Hebrews 12:1. It is scriptural without being doctrinaire and offered to encourage a deeper walk and provide a basis for continuing study.

We will continue our discussion comparing our lives as Christ-followers who are running “the race that is set before us” in Hebrews 12:1 with characteristics of running a physical race. In this study we will compare the “weights” we are urged to “lay aside” with hurdles we must clear to run our best race. There are five of them.

This Bible plan uses Hebrews 12:1 to relate key elements of “the race set before us” to a literal race. We compare the use of a “personal trainer” by elite athletes in sports to the role of the Paraclete our Helper in building the habits and disciplines that we will need to cultivate our success as disciples and followers of Christ.

One of the definitions of momentum is "force or speed of movement." Our hope is that these three days will be a jump start to seeing more spiritual and physical momentum in your life. This plan is a continuing discussion on running the “race set before us” from the book of Hebrews, chapter 12, verse 1. In each of three parts, we will discuss one disciplined commitment that successful Christ followers may utilize to finish their race, still running strongly. The disciplines follow us through all stages of life and we never outgrow our need/benefit from their application.

His delight in saving our souls is meant to be our joy as we believe in Him today. Just in case you're wondering, "high on" in this context does not refer to an intoxicating feeling. Instead, it means to be "enthusiastic about." As Christians, we are called to be enthusiastic, passionate, and zealous about spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 14:12). Faith is a spiritual gift!
