Now Is The Time: Acts Children's Journey

Devotional

Day 16

Talk to God

“God, help me know how to deal with disagreements.”

Read the Bible

Acts 15.36-41

Is there someone with whom you have a disagreement? What should you do about it?

Think About It

Paul and Barnabas were followers of Jesus Christ. They had traveled many places together to preach the good news and encourage the Christians. They were a missionary team that God had put together. But now, they had a disagreement about where to go and who to take on their journey. What would happen? Would they stop their missionary work?

Paul and Barnabas knew that many people were still waiting to hear about Jesus. They also knew that many new Christians needed to grow stronger as believers in Jesus. So even though they disagreed about the details, they agreed to continue with the missionary work God had called them to do. Paul asked Silas to join his team, and they went to Syria and Cilicia. Barnabas took John Mark with him and went to Cyprus. With this solution, the gospel was shared with even more people than before! This shows that followers of Christ can sometimes agree to disagree.

Have you ever had a disagreement with another Christian? It can be tempting to get mad at that person, say bad things about them, or have hurt feelings. But what does God want you to do?

Do Something About It

  • Pray – Ask God to give both of you wisdom about what to do. (James 1.5)

  • Try to find a solution. (Ephesians 4.3) You can ask other Christians to help both of you with this.

  • Still be friends. Ask God to help you love the other person and be kind to them even though you disagree. (Romans 12.9, 10)

  • Keep on obeying God! Don’t give up on what he’s asked you to do! (Romans 12.11)
