God In The Times Of KingsSample

God In The Times Of Kings

DAY 7 OF 7

God’s Majesty Makes Us Worship Him

David has come to the end of his forty-year reign as king. In fact, he is at the end of his life. He gathers the people together in a final convocation. He tells them that he has generously donated his personal fortune for the Temple of God, a temple that his son Solomon will build. The people then give generously and joyfully. Everyone is excited and rejoicing. At this point of high emotional fervor, David lifts his voice in prayer. He praises God for His unspeakable greatness, power, glory, majesty, and splendor.

Reading this prayer, you get the impression that David is overwhelmed by the greatness of God, that his heart is bursting with love and gratitude, that he lacks the words to adequately express praise for his God. If David was anything, he was a worshipper. David exuded this exalted view of God. David had this burning heart that was lost in love, wonder, and praise of his God. And here at this solemn moment, he cannot hold back his heart. He cannot not worship. He erupts in a burst of heartfelt praise. Listen to his heart:

"Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name." 1 Chronicles 29:10-13

This is what worshippers do. They have seen the glory of God. They have tasted the goodness of God. They have felt the love of God, and they worship. With all their hearts, they worship. God is seeking these kinds of worshippers: worshippers who cannot not worship, people with burning hearts.
