The Spirit Promised to the Church

DAY 14 OF 14

If the Holy Spirit is the leader of the Church, where did you place Him?

Throughout this reading plan, we’ve seen that the Holy Spirit is God, that the Holy Spirit is a person, we’ve learned about His mission — to bring conviction of sin and judgment, to testify of Jesus through miracles and healings and to make us a new people — but He also is the one who instructs us and teaches us all things (1 John 2:27).

The Holy Spirit is the one who calls us (Acts 20:28), and He is also the one who guides us and directs us on where to go. Just as He did with Paul, who was thinking of going to Asia but was told that the time had not yet come (Acts 16:6). He is the one who leads the Church.

There are many leaders and pastors who direct the church as they see fit, establishing manmade methods and strategies. This is dangerously audacious — it's almost like believing what Satan told Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden: “You will be like God.”

The Church of the living God can only be led by One, and that is the Holy Spirit. This brings me to my third question:

If the Holy Spirit is the leader of the Church, where did you place Him?

Jesus is going to ask you this. He said the Holy Spirit would take His place — that He would teach us and guide us into all truth. For He, like the Father and the Son, is God.

So I ask you again:

Where is the Holy Spirit?

It’s time to seek Him, to bring Him into your life, your home and your family — to hand over control to Him.

About this Plan

The Spirit Promised to the Church

Today we can say that the Church of Jesus Christ is of one mind regarding the Holy Spirit; we all know that He is God. Throughout this Bible study plan, we will learn a little more about the person of the Holy Spirit, His attributes, and His mission while answering three questions: If the Holy Spirit is God, why don't you worship Him as God? If the Holy Spirit is a person, why don't you speak to Him? If the Holy Spirit is the leader of the church, where have you placed Him?
