The Spirit Promised to the Churchਨਮੂਨਾ

He Will Quench Your Thirst!
When John the Baptist began to preach, the people wondered if he was the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet. He told them that he baptized with water, but there was one more powerful coming after him who would baptize them with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11).
Later, John baptized Jesus in the Jordan and personally testified Jesus as the Son of God after he saw the Holy Spirit descend upon Him (John 1:32–34).
It was an 800-year wait up until John’s declaration that Jesus was the one who would baptise with the Holy Spirit. This was good news for Israel!
Jesus journeyed through Samaria with his disciples and they became weary, so He stayed by a well while the disciples went into town to get food. It was in that moment that a woman came — an adulteress who previously had five husbands and was now living with a man who wasn’t her husband.
People usually went to the well early in the morning or in the evening, but the woman came at noon because of the social rejection she faced. Her thirst was not just for water—but for forgiveness and acceptance, as she was tormented by condemnation. It was in that moment that Jesus approached her, asked her for a drink, and said:
“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
Jesus was speaking the very words that God had spoken through the prophet Isaiah—that the Spirit would be poured out on those who were thirsty, and on the dry and barren land.
There is a water that Jesus wants to give us, that will quench our thirst forever, and that water is…
The Holy Spirit!

About this Plan

Today we can say that the Church of Jesus Christ is of one mind regarding the Holy Spirit; we all know that He is God. Throughout this Bible study plan, we will learn a little more about the person of the Holy Spirit, His attributes, and His mission while answering three questions: If the Holy Spirit is God, why don't you worship Him as God? If the Holy Spirit is a person, why don't you speak to Him? If the Holy Spirit is the leader of the church, where have you placed Him?
