Rooted in Christ

Colossians 2:6, 7
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith, as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

The experience of receiving Jesus Christ as our leader and Lord involves a dramatic change from running our own lives and living for ourselves. If there’s not a significant change in our lives, perhaps we’re only giving mental assent to Jesus as the Savior of our sins. Once beginning with Christ as our leader, let’s not fall back into the old pattern of living for ourselves. Our life comes from Jesus. Our strength to resist sin and live with risk-taking obedience comes from him. Like a tree that draws nutrients from its roots, we too are rooted in Christ. Remaining dependent on Jesus for all things is one of the keys to spiritual growth and maturity.

Jesus, you are my life. Thank you for your daily presence, for your counsel and the work of your Spirit in my life today.
