I Will Send You Far Away

Acts 22:21, 22
“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, ‘Rid the earth of him! He’s not fit to live!’”

The exclusive covenant the Jews had with God since Abraham and Moses had kept them separate from the Gentiles. However, it also kept them from seeing God’s heart for other nations in their midst. The prophets spoke of God’s light and covenant reaching the Gentiles. Those words must have seemed blasphemous to the crowd in Jerusalem who were ready to kill Paul. It is a reminder that we too can focus more on our churches and friends than the people around us who don’t know Jesus. Those “far away” are also loved by God.

Jesus, you are my example of reaching out to those near and far away. I pray for your mission heart for the world today.
