Growing Multigenerational Faith

31 ನ 14 ದಿನ

As children, most decisions are made for us. We eat what we’re given, go where we’re driven, and nap when we’re told. But as we grow, choices multiply - what sport to play, who to befriend, where to work, where to live. Each new decision brings excitement, suspense, and a promise of freedom…but freedom from what?

Freedom from work? Sorry, retirement’s still a few decades away. Freedom from failure? Studying can’t always prevent that D on your test. Freedom from comparison? No matter how much I have, someone always seems to have more. Freedom from fear? Guilt? Pressure?

With every choice, we escape one thing, only to bind ourselves to another. We are caught in a cycle of desire, failure, and sin - a cycle we cannot escape on our own.

Our Creator designed us to live in freedom, and He is not content to see us chained.

“Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin…” Acts 13:39a, NIV

Jesus offers us the choice to believe in Him, receive His forgiveness, and live as new people. He offers us the choice to live as citizens of a different kingdom, people who are free to make decisions not out of fear or desire, but out of love for God, others, and even ourselves. Jesus enables us to be a people anchored in the truth that regardless of our choices, we are completely understood, endlessly cared for, and never alone… people supported by grace, steadfast through change. In Christ, we are free.

Stop chasing your next choice, your next chapter in life, hoping it will bring freedom. “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say ‘I find no pleasure in them’-" Ecclesiastes 12:1, NIV

Don’t wait. Make the choice now that leads to freedom, forever.

Questions to Consider

  • What have you pursued, thinking it would bring freedom, but you found yourself captured by something else?
  • How have you found yourself set free by Jesus?

Actions to Take

  • Believe in Jesus! Ask him to set you free from what has you in captivity.
  • Share with a younger leader how your choices to follow Jesus have changed your life.

Prayer to Make

Dear Jesus, I choose you over everything else. Help me to love you above all else and keep you first in my life. When I am tempted to choose things other than you, show me the better path. Help me to be faithful to you all the days of my life. Amen.
