In Uncertainty

Who among us has not felt underequipped at some point in our lives? We’ve all faced challenges that push us to our limits and challenge our ability to persevere. When this happens, it’s easy to let fear take over our thoughts. We worry about outcomes, and we imagine worst-case scenarios. We fret about how we will be impacted by our current troubles, and we wonder if we have what it takes to move forward. If anxious thoughts are left unchecked, they’ll steal our peace and rob us of hope.

Scripture reminds us that anxiety is not inevitable. We don’t have to be slaves to our negative thoughts. Today’s verse encourages us to give our worries to the Lord. We can put our fears, hopes, plans, and challenges in his hands. This is something to which we are continually called. God eagerly encourages us to develop a habit of committing our ways to him. Surrender is not a one-time act. We don’t have to worry about burdening him or annoying him with our constant needs. He is well aware of our weaknesses and limitations, and he is happy to help. We can offer him each detail of our lives, trusting that we are putting our lives in his expert hands. He is more than able to handle anything we give him.

Giving our anxieties to God allows us to rest in his presence. It allows us to receive his peace and live in the freedom he intends for us. God didn’t create us to be overwhelmed, distraught, and spread too thin. He created us to rely on his strength and trust in his name. He created us to experience the joy of his presence and the life-giving strength of his love.

Today, take the advice of the psalmist. Commit everything you do to the Lord and trust him with it. You can pray the same prayer of surrender one hundred times a day. God doesn’t get tired of you continuously asking him for help. May his peace fill you as you offer him the details of your day.
