A Believer in the Music Industry... Is That Possible?Sýnishorn

I think it’s so awesome you started this reading plan. I’m not sure what your motivation was to start. Maybe you know me personally, perhaps the title spoke to you, or you might be a christian musician searching for your place within the music industry. Whatever it is, I hope this reading plan may inspire you to broaden your vision.
There are lots of prejudices about the music industry, but also about the people working there. So firstly, let’s dive further into the topic ‘prejudicing’. I believe that having prejudices might be a more important lesson than the main question of this reading plan.
Prejudices are all about the heart. Cambridge University describes a prejudice as: ‘An unfair and unreasonable opinion or feeling, especially when formed without enough thought or knowledge’. As humans we can be very judgemental about people. Think about judging a more chubby person, while he is sick. Or judging a well cared man as a homosexual. Or we judge an ex-convict is unreliable.
And what about christian artists that don’t publish christian music? These are all prejudices where we look at the person, their behavior or their past. While the Bible teaches us to look at the opposite:
“(...) People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Sam. 16:7, NLT)
As a christian you want to live like God wants you to live, right? So in ‘having prejudices’ you might want - or have - to change a bit too. Luckily I notice that the more aware I am of my judgy attitude, the less judgemental I tend to be. And that feels great! It has been a process of continuously critically reflecting your own behaviour, and wanting to change. It’s discarding your ego, and forgetting your own habits, patterns and thoughts. It also asks for a certain humility.
How good are you at prejudicing? It can differ in different areas of your life. For example, you might be more judgmental with friends than at work. I would like to encourage you: Research your own behavior and heart in different areas of your life. Try to look more like God in those areas: without prejudice, and looking at the heart! 💝
