Money Matters

DAY 5 OF 8

First Means First

When God is not first in your finances, He is not first in your life. And when He is not Lord over everything, He is not Lord at all.

Tithing is an act of Lordship. It reveals who holds authority in your life. It speaks to the One you trust, the One you honour, and the One you serve, not with words alone, but with what you treasure.

This is a moment for honesty. Many people treat God like a waiter, offering Him whatever is left after everything else has been served. A few dollars when it feels right. A gift when the mood is spiritual. But Jesus never asked for a portion. He called for your whole life. Every part. Including what you earn, spend, and give.

Abraham brought the first portion to God long before the law was ever given. His offering flowed from trust. It was an act of worship, a response to the faithfulness of the One who provided. Tithing was his declaration that everything in his hands had come from the hands of God.

Jesus affirmed the tithe. He did not erase it. In Matthew 23, He called out those who tithed with precision but neglected justice, mercy, and faith. His words were clear. Bring the tithe, but bring your heart with it. Do not give out of habit. Give because He is worthy. Give because it all belongs to Him.

When God is your source, honouring Him with the first is not a burden. It is a joy. The first speaks of trust. It speaks of alignment. It speaks of surrender. And surrender is not partial. It is total.

Tithing is not a calculation. It is a posture of the heart. The first ten percent is not the limit of obedience but the starting point of surrender. It is a visible expression of invisible trust. When the first is placed in God’s hands, it affirms that every part of life rests under His care.

This is an act of faith. This is an act of worship. This is the voice of a believer who says with conviction, Jesus, You are Lord over all of me.

Prayer: Father, You are first in my heart and first in my life. I honour You with what I have. Teach me to trust You fully, not just in word but in action. You are worthy of the first and worthy of it all.

About this Plan

Money Matters

Jesus taught about money and why it matters so much to our walk with him. Money is not just a resource; it reveals what we trust, who we serve, and how we live. As we learn about stewardship, tithing, and generosity, we will discover how following Jesus transforms our hearts and shapes the way we live.
