Money Matters

DAY 1 OF 8

You Can’t Serve Two Masters

Money talks. It pulls on us. Promises us freedom, power, options. And if we’re not paying attention, it starts calling the shots in our lives.

Jesus spoke plainly when it came to money. He didn’t soften the message or leave room for interpretation. He issued a clear warning: you cannot serve both God and money. This isn’t a poetic proverb to decorate your home; it’s a definitive line drawn across the landscape of your heart.

Money wants to be your master. It wants your loyalty. Your late nights. Your stress. Your focus. It wants to shape your decisions, your relationships, even your worship. And Jesus says, straight up, you’ll love one and hate the other. You’ll be devoted to one and despise the other. There’s no sitting on the fence here. You will serve something, there’s no avoiding that. The only question is who.

And here’s the confronting part, most people don’t even realise they’re serving money. It rarely announces itself. Instead, it hides in subtle beliefs: that one more pay rise will bring peace, that joy is just on the other side of the next purchase, that freedom will finally arrive when the debt clears or the house settles. It’s quiet, but it’s powerful.

But that’s the trap. Money can’t deliver what only Jesus can. If money is your master, your peace will always be temporary. You’ll always be hungry. Always one step away from feeling like you still don’t have enough.

Jesus turns the whole system on its head: we are not here to serve money, we serve God. And as we serve Him, money takes its rightful place as a servant, not a master. That is the order of the Kingdom. That is where true freedom begins.

This is about trust. It’s about Lordship. And it’s about waking up to the reality that silence around money is not neutral, it’s dangerous. If we’re following Jesus, we have to let Him lead us here, too. Not part of the way. All the way.

Prayer: Jesus, I want to follow You with all of my life, including my money. Show me where money is sitting on the throne. I choose today to put You first, again. You’re my provider, not my pay slip.

About this Plan

Money Matters

Jesus taught about money and why it matters so much to our walk with him. Money is not just a resource; it reveals what we trust, who we serve, and how we live. As we learn about stewardship, tithing, and generosity, we will discover how following Jesus transforms our hearts and shapes the way we live.
