From Our Father to Amen: The Prayer That Shapes UsSýnishorn

Your will be done
Trusting God’s Perfect Plan
When we pray, "Your will be done" (Matthew 6:10 NKJV), we're aligning ourselves with God's perfect plan. It’s easy to say these words but truly living them out requires trust and surrender. Many people hesitate to fully embrace God's will because they fear it might lead to hardship. However, God's will is always in line with His goodness, love, and wisdom.
Jesus Himself set the ultimate example of submitting to God's will. In John 6, He declared, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent me” (John 6:38 NKJV). From birth to resurrection, Jesus lived to fulfill His Father's plan, even when it meant suffering. In the Garden of Gethsemane, facing crucifixion, Jesus prayed, “Not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42 NKJV). His complete trust in God's will paved the way for our salvation.
Paul also demonstrated what it means to surrender to God’s will. After his dramatic conversion, he immediately asked, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” (Acts 9:6 NKJV). He dedicated his life to spreading the gospel, enduring hardships yet remaining steadfast because he trusted that God’s plan was ultimately for good. Romans 8:28 NKJV reminds us, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” This verse reassures us that, even when circumstances are challenging, God's will is shaping us into the image of Christ.
Many hesitate to pray, “Your will be done,” fearing it might lead them to difficult places or unwanted situations. But is God the kind of Father who delights in making His children suffer? Absolutely not! Psalm 118 declares, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 118:1 NKJV). If God is good, then His will is also good.
Finding God’s will isn’t as mysterious as we sometimes think. He has revealed much of it through His Word. The Bible provides clear guidance on how to live, love, and serve. By reading Scripture, we gain wisdom for our daily lives. God also leads us through His Spirit, giving us the courage to obey His plan with joy.
Ultimately, praying “Your will be done” isn’t about passively accepting fate but about actively seeking and obeying God’s purpose. It’s an invitation for God to shape our lives according to His perfect design, trusting that His ways are always best.
About this Plan

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives us a model for prayer. This beautiful prayer, known as The Lord’s Prayer, begins with a worshipful "Our Father", reminding us of our close and loving relationship with God, and ends with "Amen" or “so be it”— a bold declaration of faith, trust, and surrender. As we reflect on the words our Lord has given us and the journey they take us through—worship, surrender, dependence, forgiveness, and spiritual protection—may “Amen” rise from our lips not as an ending, but as an act of worship.
