Dare to dream of justice
“With righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.” (Isaiah 11:4 ESV)
The prophet Isaiah describes what the reign of the Lord Jesus Christ will look like. When He finally becomes King over all the earth for good, He will be guided by the Spirit of the Lord. This will be evident by His wisdom, insight and righteousness.
The absolute righteousness of Jesus' reign is threatening to “the ungodly,” for they will be judged severely. But it is good news for “the poor” and “the meek.” Those will finally receive fair treatment. What a relief, after these very groups have suffered injustice for centuries worldwide!
The book of Psalms is full of prayers from people who were oppressed. For example, in Psalm 71:4 (ESV) we read, “Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.” The Bible describes many examples in which God actually did so. But we do not yet see the final, complete redemption from all unrighteousness. Therefore, it can be very encouraging to reread Isaiah's vision from time to time and cling to this truth. Injustice will not have the last word. God is creating “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:13 ESV)
Do you experience injustice in your own life, or do you see it happening around you? How does this affect you?

About this Plan

In daily life, it is often helpful to be down to earth. But God also encourages us to keep dreaming — dreaming of His Kingdom of peace, justice and light.
