Refresh My Soul: Discovering God’s Promises for a Purposeful LifeIhe Nhụchatụ

Day 23: Clothed in Compassion
Every day, Jesus chose compassion. When religious leaders dragged the woman caught in adultery into the temple courts, Jesus didn’t condemn her. Demanding justice, with stones in hand, they were ready to harshly condemn her. But Jesus knelt down and wrote in the dirt. Then He stood and said, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.” One by one, her accusers walked away (See John 8:1–11).
Jesus wore compassion like a coat. He didn’t ignore her sin, but He didn’t shame her either. He looked her in the eye and said,
“Neither do I condemn you…Go now and leave your life of sin” (John 8:11 NIV).
“Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience” (Colossians 3:12 ESV).
Paul tells us to clothe ourselves with compassion, as if it’s the first thing we put on each day. Just like we wouldn't leave the house without getting dressed, we shouldn’t step into our interactions without the mindset of Christ. Compassion allows us to see people through God’s eyes—not as problems to fix or failures.
When we’re clothed in compassion, our homes become softer, our friendships deeper, and our impact greater. We choose to wear the heart of heaven in the details of ordinary life.
