Refresh My Soul: Discovering God’s Promises for a Purposeful Life

Day 28: Faith That Grows Roots

Have you ever planted something and expected it to sprout overnight? Maybe you watered it once, checked the next morning…and saw nothing. It’s easy to feel like nothing is happening under the ground. But growth takes time—and so does faith.

Jesus told a parable about a sower who scattered seeds. Some fell on rocky ground, some among thorns, and some on good soil. The seed that fell on shallow soil sprang up quickly, but it didn’t have deep roots, so when the sun came out, it withered (Matthew 13:5-6). Faith that grows fast isn’t always faith that lasts. What matters most is what’s happening beneath the surface.

“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:7 NLT).

Deep, rooted faith comes from choosing to stay planted in Jesus—especially in the hard seasons. Sometimes, we look at others and feel like we’re not growing fast enough. But roots grow in the quiet, hidden places: in prayer, in scripture, in those little choices to trust God when it would be easier to quit.

God sees what no one else sees—the daily choosing to trust Him, the quiet faithfulness, the hidden prayers. The more deeply you are rooted in Christ, the stronger and more fruitful your life will become.

APPLICATION

Take time today to reflect on what’s been growing underneath in your spiritual life. Thank God for that unseen work.

  • PRAY
God, thank You for being patient with me as my faith grows. Grow something deep and lasting in my heart. I want to be strong in You—rooted and steady. Amen.
  • SAY
My faith is growing roots—deep, steady, and anchored in Christ.
  • ASK
Where in my life is God inviting me to stay rooted instead of rushing ahead?
