May 3 – The Authority of the Scripture
The authority of Scripture means that the Word of God is the final standard for truth, belief, and conduct. It does not derive authority from human approval or cultural acceptance; it possesses authority inherently because it is God’s Word. What Scripture declares is not a suggestion but the truth that stands above opinion.
This authority matters because it governs the believer’s life. It shapes what we believe, how we think, and how we live. When Scripture is recognised as the highest authority, it becomes the measure for decisions, convictions, and actions. It provides stability in a world filled with conflicting voices and shifting values.
When the authority of Scripture is rejected or diminished, people begin to elevate personal experience, culture, or emotion above truth. This leads to confusion and inconsistency. Without a clear authority, every belief becomes equally valid, and truth loses its meaning. A life not governed by Scripture will eventually be governed by error.
DAILY EXERCISE
Identify one area of your life where your decisions are not fully aligned with Scripture.
Write down what the Scripture says about it and commit to aligning with it.
PRAYER
Father, help me to submit fully to the authority of Your Word. Let Your truth govern my thoughts, decisions, and actions. I pray for leaders, families, students, and believers across Nigeria that Your Word will become the standard by which they live and lead. Lord, we ask that nations will recognise the authority of Your Word. Strengthen the Church worldwide to stand firm on truth without compromise. Let Your Word prevail over falsehood across the earth.
CONFESSION
God’s Word is the final authority in my life. I align my thoughts and actions with His truth.
