A very important question to ask yourself is:

"What does Scripture teach about this thing called 'worship'?"
EVERYONE is worshipping something!

Ecc 3:11 - "..He has put eternity in their hearts.."
“What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace? This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by GOD himself” - Pascal

This means that the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Spiritists, the Shintoist are all worshipping something. But also the Atheist, the Humanist, the Materialist are worshipping something as well... usually themselves!

Many people don't even know or understand WHAT they're worshipping!
John 4:21-24 - "Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
"All places are places of worship to a Christian. Wherever he is, he ought to be in a worshipping state of mind!" - Spurgeon
PREPARATION of our hearts is necessary in order for worship to be truly meaningful

"The best worship that we ever render to God is far from perfect. Our praises, how faint and feeble they are! Our prayers, how wandering, how wavering they are! When we get nearest to GOD, how far off we are! When we are most like Him, how greatly unlike Him we are!" - Spurgeon

"There should be some preparation of the heart in coming to the worship of GOD. Consider who He is, in whose Name we gather, and surely we cannot rush together without thought! Consider Whom we profess to worship, and we shall not hurry into His presence as men run to a building on fire! Moses, the man of God, was warned to put off his shoes from his feet when God only revealed Himself in a bush. How much more should we prepare ourselves when we come to Him who reveals Himself in Christ Jesus, His dear Son? There should be no stumbling into the place of worship half asleep, no roaming here as if it were no more than going a playhouse. We cannot expect to profit much if we bring with us a swarm of idle thoughts, and a heart crammed with vanity! If we are full of foolishness, we may shut out the truth of God from our minds!" - Spurgeon
#1 - RESPONSIVE - "Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb.."

-Biblical worship is in RESPONSE to Who God is, and what He has done!
-GOD is always the Initiator; always the Great Cause - we simply respond to His great acts of love, mercy, and grace: Creation; Preservation; Redemption; Sanctification; Glorification
-1Jn 4:10 - "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
-1Jn 4:11 - "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
-1Jn 4:19 - "We love Him because He first loved us."

Are YOU responding to what He has done...for YOU?
Luke 9:23 - Respond by your CROSS!
Luke 19:11-27 - Respond by your CALLING!

Now it's YOUR turn to give back to Him!
"My happiest moments are when I am worshipping God, really adoring the Lord Jesus Christ, and having fellowship with the blessed Spirit! In that worship, I forget the cares of the church and everything else. To me, it is the nearest approach to what it will be like in Heaven!" - Spurgeon
#2 - SUBMISSIVE - "..the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb.."

-Biblical worship is an act of BOWING DOWN in obedience before God!
-Where is the first time that the word "worship" appears in the OT and NT?
-Gen 18:1-2 - "Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground."
-"bowed" is the Hebrew word "שָׁחָה" or "shachah" meaning to bow oneself down, to crouch, to fall down flat, to humbly beg, to do obeisance, to do reverence, to stoop down, to worship.

Matt 2:2 - “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
This is the Greek word "προσκυνέω" or "proskyneō" meaning to bow down and prostrate oneself, but also to come close in intimacy, as in a kiss.

"Here I Am To Worship"
"Here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that you're my God,
You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.
So Here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that you're my God."

Bowing down must be not merely outward, but inward, in the heart, and in the mind!
Matt 5-7 - This is where the Lord looks! (1 Sam 16:7)

"The Heart Of Worship"
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus!

-This involves a submission to God's authority; an obedience to His commands; and a recognition of His position as the Lord and Master over your life personally!
Heb 13:17 - Submit to God's Leaders in your Church. (Job 1:21)
-"To let God be God, of course, means climbing down from my own executive chair of control." - Philip Yancey
"Before anything that is truly of God can be born, your own preferences have to die." - David Putman
Eph 5:22, 25; 6:1 - Submit to God's Leaders in your Home.
Rom 13:1-7 - Submit to God's Leaders in your Government.
Are YOU bowing down to Christ?
Are YOU submitting to His Word, and obeying His commands for YOUR life?
Do YOU regularly declare to Him that He is the Master and that you are merely His servant and slave?
