The Harvest of the Righteous
The angel on the cloud (v. 14)- “Like a son of man” Matt. 26:64, Matt. 24:30, Rev. 10:1, On the clouds - Acts 1:9, - Mt of Transfiguration (Matt17:5), Rev. 1:7, Daniel 7:3, “was like a son of man, coming with the clouds.”, The term “Son of Man” was regularly used by Jesus for Himself. All throughout Matthew He called Himself the Son of man.
The golden crown also speaks of a King and His office.
The sickle (v. 14)- A scythe or sickle was used to harvest grain in the scriptures. NOTE: The Sickle!!!!!
The harvest is ready, the earth is ripe (v. 15) - Another angel comes out of the Temple calling out in a loud voice to the “One who is like the son of man.” “Take your sickle and reap because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” The angel wasn’t telling the Son of Man what to do but announcing the earth is finally ready to reap for the time was completed for the harvest.
The earth is harvested ( v. 16) - The time had come and the harvest began and was completed. This is a description of the complete harvest in general. The righteous and the unrighteous are harvested. We know by God’s Word that the righteous will not suffer like the unrighteous as seen in John 5:24, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
What I want you to see is that Jesus is involved in the harvesting too.
The Harvest of the Unrighteous
Angels with sickles and fire (v. 17-18) - Several angels with sharp sickles will go into the world to harvest the ripe grapes of the earth’s vine. It is not completely understood the significance of the angel with the fire.
Gathering ripen grapes from the earth’s vine (v. 18) - The grapes that are of the earth’s cluster of grapes are regarded as the unrighteous of the earth. The ripen grapes seems to have to do with the condition of the sin in the world and God’s timing for the judgment. Sin had gone as far as it could go with God.
The harvest comes with the winepress of God’s wrath (v. 19) - The angels reaped the harvest of the unrighteousness and the wrath of God is satisfied in the winepress.

An illustration of how great is the wrath of God (v. 20) - the winepress of the grapes demonstrates the great wrath of God. Winepress? The grapes of the vineyard would be placed in the winepress when they were ripe and the grapes juice would be the winepress illustrates the wrath and judgment of the God who made them. The illustration is to show its great magnitude of the judgment and wrath of God. It will be so bad that the grapes will flow out of the winepress as blood and be as deep as the shoulders of the horse and as long as 180 miles or the length of Palestine. This may also reflects the judgment and massacre of the opponents of God seen in Rev. 19:17-21. This is just one of the ways that God tries to tell us how great and awful the judgment of God is against those who rebel against the name of God.
When the time has come and the Son of Man begins the harvest there will be those who will be harvested unto righteousness and glory but there will be those who will be harvested unto destruction and forever death.
These things are written in the Revelation that we might read them and hear them and respond to the Love and Grace of the Almighty God as He calls out to each of us to receive His blessed Son, Jesus Christ, as their one and only Savior and Lord of their life. The reality is that there will be a judgment day coming. It will be for the righteous and unrighteous (all those who have not believed in the name of the Son of God.) Believe = relied upon, trusted in, given their life to, have faith in, turned their life over to. God so wants everyone to receive His love found in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept that their sins are cleansed at the cross of Calvary by His death and eternal life comes through His resurrection. He will change your life completely when you trust in Him with all your heart and soul. The judgment is real and the Bible says “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment…” Hebrews 9:27 There will be a judgment for all...those who are without the Lord and die before the Lord comes, will face their partial judgment at first and those who are alive when the final judgment comes will along with those who died earlier will finally see the truth of the end judgment of those who have rejected Christ as Savior and Lord.
The harvest is coming!

Invitation

Dear friend if you are reading this by way of the internet please know that you are loved and cared for. If you have no relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then I invite you to trust Him by faith and receive Him as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sin of everyone in the world that they may have eternal life. All of us have sinned and all are guilty before Almighty God who made us to have fellowship with Him. But sin broke that ability to have a relationship and Jesus has restored the possibility to know God personally through His sacrifice. Please know that if you will seek God and turn from your sin and pray He will respond with His love and give to you a personal relationship through your belief in His Son and the sacrifice He made just for you. He will call for a change in your life too. He wants you to follow Him, not the world, not your own desires, but to follow Jesus. That brings a life change when you turn from sin and self and by faith believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. There is no Savior without Him being Lord of your life. Your willingness to change by following Him daily in your life will be the proof of your faith. When life throws its curves your way and you have found yourself broken by others or by the world let us introduce you to the only One who can help you…Jesus!
