Wisdom From The Beatitudes

The events of 9/11 shaped the attitudes of a nation and the world – the Sermon on the Mount has shaped the attitudes of the heart of mankind for centuries, let’s let it shape our attitudes as well, let’s watch God develop Beautiful Attitudes in us.

Attitude is a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior – A position of the body implying an action or mental state –
The orientation of an aircraft or spacecraft, relative to the direction of travel – Attitude Determines Altitude
Most importantly, attitudes determine our behaviors.

Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The world tells us Blessed are the Rich – Famous – Popular – Powerful

But the Word tells us the very opposite

Instead of focusing on Self – Pride – Gain – Temporary Happiness and Everything The World Values – Jesus teaches us about Love – Mercy – Humility – Spirituality – Compassion and what it means to be Blessed

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

You’re blessed when you realize that you are BANKRUPT without God IN your life.

Poor in spirit indicates a willingness to SURRENDERto the authority and control of God, so that He might govern our lives.

Blessed means O How Happy - True happiness is the result of a right relationship with God

Realizing you’re poor in spirit is the FOUNDATIONof our relationship with God, it’s an attitude that God can build on and all of the other Beautiful Attitudes can develop in our lives

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
How can it be a blessing to mourn? Mourning indicates the loss of someone or something that you’ve loved. You’re blessed because you actually had someone or something to love.

You’re blessed when you mourn the loss of your clear CONSCIENCE. When you recognize your sins and you have a Godly sorrow you’ll be led to repentance, that’s a blessing.
· 2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation
We're comforted as God cleanses us of our unrighteousness and sins

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Meek is not weak – Meekness is POWER UNDER CONTROL
A meek person can have anger when others are treated unjustly, but not be angry when he is unjustly treated

Read Mark 3 Jesus is angry with the religious leaders because they didn’t want Him to heal a man on the Sabbath.
