Long Story, Short - Offended
Welcome to First Southern as we are continuing our series, Long Story, Short. In the previous two weeks we have been looking at the character of our awesome God, this week we are beginning to take a peak into the problem that plagues every man and woman on planet earth. That we would be so rebellious to tell the One who loves us unconditionally, created everything for our enjoyment, and desires nothing but good for us, “no.” Today we will begin to see how this issue of saying “no” to God is sin, and is at the root of every problem that mankind faces. But the good news is that men and women, you and me, do not have to allow our problem to become a permanent condition.

Genesis 3:1-7
God created us to have a wonderful relationship with Him forever!
We cannot live forever with God as we were designed.
Genesis 3:1-7, “Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’? The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden. But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’ “No! You will not die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.”
If we misdiagnose ourselves, and don’t admit that we are sinners we are going to miss out on a whole lot more than just living forever.
Everything in all of creation responds to the bidding of the Creator, until you get to you and me, and we have the audacity to say… “NO!”
Romans 5:12, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
When asked how he would share the Gospel with a modern person, Francis Schaeffer said, “I would spend 45-50 minutes on the negative, to really show him his dilemma—that he is morally dead—then I’d take 10-15 minutes to preach the Gospel. I believe that much of our evangelistic and personal work today is not clear simply because we are too anxious to get to the answer without having a man realize the real cause of his sickness, which is true moral guilt (and not just psychological guilt feelings) in the presence of God.”
One sin, before an infinitely holy God is worthy of an infinitely holy judgment, which will be eternally terrible.
While the gospel ministers to the consequences of human life, it also identifies that the root of our problem is blatant rebellion against our Creator, Holy God. —David platt
Revelation 20:11–15 (HCSB) “Then I saw a great white throne and One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books. Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead; all were judged according to their works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

James 1:15 (HCSB) Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
Genesis 3:15 (HCSB) “I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
Romans 5:12 (HCSB) Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.
Definition of Sin: Killing God in the most cruel and inhumane way imaginable making it as painful as possible and taking delight in it. - Dr. Nat Tracy
2 Corinthians 5:21, “He who knew no sin, became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
