46 Years! -Dan Rouse

This past week Carol and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary! That’s 2,392 weeks we’ve spent together as husband and wife—approaching 17,000 days! That can make you feel old...or blessed.

Carol and I met in high school. She was a junior and I was a senior. We started dating in January of 1969 and married August 9, 1970. Four kids, six grandchildren, nearly forty four years in the ministry, and more than a few grey hairs later, I am very glad I was blessed to meet the woman with whom I’ve shared by life. She has blessed me beyond measure with her steadfast love and rock solid faith. She has encouraged me and admonished me and played a huge role in making me the man I am today. (She should get the credit for any good stuff; I’ll take the blame for the bad). I’ve said repeatedly I would never have remained in the ministry and had whatever success I’ve had without her. That is absolutely, unequivocally true.

Marriage continues to be under attack in our culture. Folks who have been blessed to share most of their adult lives with one mate are becoming fewer and fewer. That’s a shame. When people start changing mates like they do clothes, all kinds of wonderful blessings get lost. If you’re part of a marriage that has endured, you know what a good thing that is.

My mom and dad saw 63 years together before mom died. Maybe God will give Carol and I a similar blessing. But if He doesn’t, I’ve got no complaint...I wouldn’t trade the years we’ve already had for anything.
