Fill My Cup Lord
Being Filled With The Spirit
To be filled with wisdom we must first empty our cup
My thoughts are not your thoughts; my ways are not your ways
For My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Some cars talk to us and tell us when we’re low on fuel, how many miles we have left, and where the closest station is. But my car isn’t so fancy. I still have to keep an eye on the gauge.
If there were a gauge on your forehead that indicated whether you were filled with the Holy Spirit or empty, what would it read? Where would the needle fall?
If we are filled with the Holy Spirit, it shows on these three dials: singing, thanksgiving, and submission. This obviously isn’t a one-time event, nor does it happen suddenly. It’s a process, a habitual life of growing in the Spirit-filled, Christ-centered life.
Don’t tell the Lord, “Give me a dollar’s worth.” Say every day, “Fill ’er up!”
Let us not forget that the Spirit within us is the presence of Christ. If we are filled with the Spirit, it is Christ Himself who fills us. —René Pache
Every time we say, “I believe in the Holy Spirit,” we mean that we believe there is a living God able and willing to enter human personality and change it. —J. B. Philips
Jesus came to live as an example in all things for us to follow – Follow Me was to all
Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost,
Luke 4:1-2
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
Jesus returned in the power of the spirit.
Luke 4:14
14, Jesus returned in the power of the spirit. and news about him spread through the whole countryside.
The spirit of the Lord was upon him.
Jesus didn't deal with temptation as a God. He dealt with Satan as a man filled with the Holy Ghost. You see when filled with the spirit you have an unusual power. The devil can't steal your spirit or pick the word out of your mind.
Luke 4:18-19
18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
If Jesus is LORD – We should be FILLED with His Spirit
Luke 6:46
"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
1 Corinthians 12:3
…no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
John 20:22
And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit”.
If you Want to Stay Full – Give and Serve Others
1 Kings 17:10-16 NLT
10So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, "Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?" 11As she was going to get it, he called to her, "Bring me a bite of bread, too."
12But she said, "I swear by the Lord your God that I don't have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die."
13But Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you've said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what's left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.
14For this is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!"
15So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her son continued to eat for many days.16 just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.
If You Want to Stay Full – Pour Out Your Oil Behind Closed Doors
2 Kings 4:1-7 NLT
One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, "My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord . But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves."
2"What can I do to help you?" Elisha asked. "Tell me, what do you have in the house?"
"Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil," she replied.
3 And Elisha said, "Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. 4 Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled."
5 So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. 6 Soon every container was full to the brim!
"Bring me another jar," she said to one of her sons.
"There aren't any more!" he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing.
7 When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, "Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over."
It’s our job as His Servants to fully obey His commands, therefore, we should pray, seek, confess, turn, draw near, and do whatever it takes for us to lift up our cup to Him and fully receive the Holy Spirit.
Pray for me as I pray for you –
That we may be and stay FULL.
Here’s My Cup Lord
Here’s my cup Lord, I Lift it up Lord.
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of heaven feed me till I want know more,
Here’s my cup Fill it up and make me whole.
