Manurewa Bible Church Annual Bible Conference
September 9th-11th - Theme: Who is Jesus?
The speaker this year is John Mackay (Int. Director Creation Research) from Australia who will be giving 5 addresses using Mark 4:37-41 as a springboard.
A special feature of this year's conference will be the debate on Sunday afternoon between John and Peter Harrison (President NZ Assoc. Rationalist/Humanist) which we see as a great outreach opportunity.
As seating is limited we would ask if you intend to come to please register on the MBC website at http://www.manurewabiblechurch.org.nz. This also helps them greatly with catering. As they are still trying to finalise details for debate, a full flyer with timetable and topics will follow

In forgiving others
In faith as now to be exercised
In fact we are unprofitable servants
In furtherance of the Messiahship
In focus on the coming kingdom
In progression of Mark 13 and Matthew 24-25
One of these in17:11-19 highlights for us Jesus' question, "Where are the nine?"
One of these in17:11-19 highlights for us Jesus' question, "Where are the nine?"
The Ten:
Their anguished cry for mercy is heard in their grave need that is corporate to them all as a kinship group of lepers, yet very personal to each one of them.
His all-encompassing compassion for them in healing in each one and them all
His plain command to "go and show themselves to the priests"
All ten are to give witness to the priests in true fullness of witness & that all have been healed by Him - their only God and the true Messiah!

The One:
one only & alone returns to Him with grateful thanks & praise to God
He is a Samaritan - a stranger outside the promises
He probably felt excluded from the Jewish priesthood or at least from their inclusive sympathy as being doubly unclean to them
He returns to Christ who has both cures and cleansed him whom he now sees as God incarnate and probably the true Messiah!
Jesus acknowledges his renewed social & personal state in rightly acting as his God and priest in pronouncing him clean & made whole
Jesus pronounces that his faith has saved not only his now renewed body, but also now his regenerated soul as he falls before him owning that he is his true and only Saviour!

The Nine: "Where are the nine?"
The Background:
Their witness the the priests obligatory as Moses had and as Jesus now commands
Their witness the the priests obligatory as Moses had and as Jesus now commands
They as a leprous group would have been isolated from their homes, the synagogues and the temple
They were now cleansed and free to return to all three of those. No longer isolated but integrated into the nation at all levels
They were aware in their acute need that Jesus is the Messiah and their true Lord who has healed them in the truth of Exodus 15:26
They were now cleansed and free to return to all three of those. No longer isolated but integrated into the nation at all levels
They were aware in their acute need that Jesus is the Messiah and their true Lord who has healed them in the truth of Exodus 15:26
The Foreground:
The hostility they would have experienced if they confessed Jesus by "the powers that be" as that they had then been experienced by Jesus
The certainty: This of their little or no place in their family
The hostility they would have experienced if they confessed Jesus by "the powers that be" as that they had then been experienced by Jesus
The certainty: This of their little or no place in their family
Nor any part in the synagogues
Nor any welcome in the Temple later
The pressure they felt, to conform to their society among family, friends, & nation, nullified their testimony to Jesus
The Nine In our Churches:
The notable few who take part in our worship
The estimate is only 10% or less
The size of our assemblies allows many to remain silent joining the silent majority as in our passage and leaving this to others.
The smaller of our churches reveals the more who participate in worship in relation to membership who take part in worship
The larger churches create laziness in our men contrary to 1 Cor 14:26 & Ps 107:1-2

The reality is for each to come prepared to participate, if mutually suitable, in the total congregational worship
The loss of nerve, strength and speech may certainly excuse the very old but mostly they are willing, if wanting, in their worship
the height of worship revels the length of our witness. "For the light that shines the furtherest shines the brightest nearest home."
Am I a part of the silent majority or of a willing minority knowing that to "give thanks to the Lord for He is good"
