SERMON: Acts 27 - “Anchors Down”

“When we are tossed to and fro, it is time to drop down the anchors…what are these anchors?”

1. Every Paul Needs an Aristarchus

2. Every Midnight Gives Birth to a Dawn

3. Every Event God Orchestrates

“Never set sail without your Anchor!”
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. Read Hebrews 6:19. This is the only other place (other than Acts 27) in Scripture that the word “anchor” appears As you have passed through storms in your own life, what are “anchors” that you have clung to for safety and deliverance?
2. Review Proverbs 15:22, 18:24, 24:6, 27:9, and 1 Samuel 24:16. What is the importance of friends and partners in both ministry and in life? Who is an “Aristarchus” in your own life?
3. Review Genesis 18:26–32. What does this text show us of how the presence of believers can protect a community? How about Acts 27 and Paul (see vv. 22-25, 34, 37, 44)?
4. Review the following passages and note how God was at work fulfilling His word and actively at work in getting Paul to Rome: Acts 19:21, 23:11, 25:12, 27:24, 28:14. What encouragement can we glean from this for our own lives?
5.Review the following passages that also contain the idea that “every midnight brings forth a dawn” and describe how this applies to our lives: Job 35:10; Ps. 30:5; 126:5-6; Acts 16:25-26.
6. Review the following biblical examples of how God’s word provides us an example of strength for perseverance in suffering and facing challenges, and identify the encouragement we receive from them: Genesis 50:20; Joshua 1:5-9; Isaiah 43:1-3; Lamentations 3:19-26; Matthew 10:29-31; John 14:1-6; 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.
7. Identify a single “action point” for your life based upon this sermon. How will you implement it?
