Sermon Notes
Ephesians 3:20 - “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (NLT)
BIG IDEA: We are called to a life infinitely more than we have expected or planned. This requires us to answer the call and be an active
participant on God’s team.
Luke 5:1–11 (NIV) - One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the
fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had
finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let
down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both
boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had
taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and
followed him.
God has a purpose and a plan for your life that is infinitely more than what you are currently living.
#1 GOD IS LOOKING FOR OBEDIENCE
Luke 5:10–11, (NIV) Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Peter steps out of the boat a second time, during a storm, to walk on the water toward Jesus.
#2 BECAUSE, GOD CALLS US OUTSIDE OF OUR COMFORT ZONE
Matthew 14:25–29 (NIV) - Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus
immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and
came toward Jesus.
John 21:3, (NIV) “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they
went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Don’t allow your failure to push you back into the comfort zone God worked so hard to pull you out of.
#3 GOD’S PURPOSES STILL STAND EVEN WHEN YOU WALK AWAY
John 21:7, (NIV) Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.
