THE LAST DAYS SIGN IN THE CHURCH

Matthew 16:28 (KJV)
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

1. This is, actually, a reference to the Apostle John.

a. he was the last of the disciples to die

b. before he died, he saw the Kingdom on the isle of Patmos during his exile

2. But this verse applies to many of us today.

John
14:1-3 (KJV)
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

3. Jesus will return to receive us.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (KJV)
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

4. This is how Jesus will return for us.

5. In A.D. 373, an Early Church father, Ephraem the Syrian stated:

“For all the saints and Elect of God are gathered, prior to the Tribulation that is to come, and are taken to the Lord lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of our sins”

1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

6. Notice the four last days admonishments:

#1. stedfast - Gk - hedraios - to sit and remain settled from your place of origin

#2. unmoveable - Gk - ametakinētos - not to remove yourself from your place of origin

#3. abounding in the work of the Lord - Gk - perisseuō - to excel, to do your best

#4. labour - Gk - kopos - to work extremely hard at your job, calling or assignment

7. From these four definitions, we can say:
Stay settled where God places you and don’t remove yourself for whatever reason or excuse you come up with.

Instead...

Work very hard on your ministry or assignment and work very hard to become the best where God originally placed you to serve.

8. Why were we given this encouragement?

Matthew 7:22-23 (KJV)
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

9. These are believers whom God called to serve Him.

a. but iniquity got in the way

10. Allow me to switch translations on you

Matthew 7:22 - 23 (MSG)
22 I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, 'Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.'
23 And do you know what I am going to say? 'You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don't impress me one bit. You're out of here.'

11. What does Jesus say about these church folks?

Matthew 25:30 (KJV)
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

12. He said these folks became useless.

a. what happened

Matthew 24:12 (KJV)
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13. There is that word again...iniquity.

14. They knew what the Word says, but believe that they were exempt from being accountable to it.

15. These folks have one underlying behavior pattern that is very noticeable.

Matthew 13:1-2 (KJV)
1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

16. In the Four Gospels, crowds always gather to see what’s going on.

a. this was before the Church, Jesus Body was established

Colossians 1:18 (KJV)
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

17. The Church is His Body today.

1 Corinthians 12:20 (MSG)
20 What we have is one body with many parts, each its proper size and in its proper place. No part is important on its own.

18. Individually, you are just a body part.

19. When all parts are assembled together, it’s called a body.

1 Corinthians 12:18 (KJV)
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

20. God places you, the body part, where you can do the most for the body as a whole.

21. When the Church was formed, the language changed.

a. believers no longer gathered

b. they assembled

Acts 1:4 (KJV)
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

22. Jesus is assembled with the believers.

a. He is about to usher in the Holy Ghost

Acts 4:31 (KJV)
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

23. Believers no longer gathered to see what will happen,

a. we assemble for a purpose

b. in this case, the purpose of their assembly meeting was to pray

Acts 11:26 (KJV)
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

24. Notice that God’s original design was for believers to assemble at a church.

a. all body parts coming together

Acts 15:25 (KJV)
25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

25. An assembly always has a purpose or reason.

a. a crowd does not

Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

26. The problem is that:

a. one of the last day's signs before Jesus comes is

b. that some believers stopped assembling with the church

c. for whatever reason, excuse or justification

d. and they become missing body parts

27. THIS IS A LAST DAYS SIGN IN THE CHURCH TODAY!

Acts 1:4 (KJV)
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

28. Jesus is about to turn those:

a. who gathered to see what would happen

b. into an assembly with a purpose

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (KJV)
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

29. Jesus was about to ascend into heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:5-6 (KJV)
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

30. Over 500 people watched Him being raptured.

a. these are the ones He told to go to Jerusalem

Acts 1:12 (KJV)
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

31. This crowd of 500 who saw Jesus ascend...

a. are dispersing after hearing Jesus say “Go to Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Ghost.”

Acts 1:13 (KJV)
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

32. Here is a list of some of the disciples who obeyed.

Acts 1:15 (KJV)
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

33. A total of 120 people obeyed Jesus' command to go to Jerusalem.

a. what happened to the other 380 people

b. who heard Jesus’ command to assemble in Jerusalem

Revelation 1:7 (KJV)
7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

wail - Gk - koptō - to mourn from the loss of a loved one

a. be full of grief over suffering a loss

34. Could this be an implication of those who chose to be

a. just body parts

b. and quit being part of the body as a whole

Revelation 2:4 (KJV)
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

35. When people lose their love to come or be in the House of God...

a. and remove themselves for whatever reason

b. and abandon their assignments

c. forsake the assembling with other believers

d. they became lukewarm

Romans 1:20 (MSG)
20 By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can't see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse.

36. Excuses won’t fly with God.

John 1:51 (NLT)
51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”

37. Jesus is the True ‘stairway to heaven’

Ezekiel 37:2-3 (NLT)
2 He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. 3 Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign LORD,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.”

38. LET THIS BE YOUR RESURRECTION DAY!

Prayer of Salvation

Dear Lord,
I admit that I am a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I repent. I ask that you forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross to save me. You did for me what I could not do for myself and I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life. Lord, I love you. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases you. Thank you that I will spend eternity with you.

Amen
