Beauty for Ashes

Beauty for Ashes

This message is a promise from God that “I want to give you beauty for your ashes”. Whatever your situation is, whether you are in the valley of dry bones, or it seems there is no solution in sight for your problems, or you are sick and downtrodden, or you don’t even have any affliction, but you just desire a better life, no matter what your state is, God can still make it better. So whether you are afflicted or not, God is saying to you He will give you beauty for ashes. So rest assured that today God is working in your storm to produce peace, and is working in your ashes to give you beauty.

Sunday 9:45 AM

When was the last time you were heartbroken? We all will experience a broken heart – a metaphor for the intense emotional/physical stress
Context: Mary's history with the savior
- Mary Magdalene was a disciple of Jesus – see Luke 8:1-3.
- Mary at the crucifixion– see Mark 15:40-41, Luke 23:49, Matthew 27:55-56, John 19:25
- Mary prepared Jesus’ body for burial– see Luke 23:55-56, Matthew 27:61.
The Beauty of the resurrection reveals...

I am comforted by Jesus
- Mary is heartbroken and overwhelmed; but Jesus appeared
- He also appears to Mary, first.
- What does Jesus do when He appears? He calls her name.

I am valuable to Jesus
- Mary has been often referred to as an apostle to the Apostles
- Apostle simply means, "sent one" and given a mission
- Immediately she’s important (valuable)

Additional Scripture references: Luke 4:18-19, Eph. 2:10
Talk it over:
1. What was the big take away from today's message?
2. Put yourself in Mary’s place. How would she feel at the tomb alone when Jesus says her name?
3. What has convinced you of the reality of the risen Christ?
4. What would you share with a non-believer who claims that Jesus’ Resurrection is too good to be true?
