Responsive Reading
(Worship Sourcebook p.76)

In holy splendor, we worship the Lord.
In God is glory and strength.
The Lord is mighty. God is with us.
In torrents and storms, God’s peace pervades.
In rumbling thunder, God’s mighty voice soothes.
The Lord is majestic. God is with us.
The whisper of the Lord snaps silence.
The unwavering sound persists.
The Lord is awesome. God is with us.
As flames being fanned, the presence grows.
In its shadow the wilderness pleads.
The Lord is powerful. God is with us.
Enthroned, God rules the universe.
The peaceful scepter prevails.
God reigns. God is with us.
In whirling winds, nature acknowledges glory.
The people in the temple rejoice.
It is certain. God is with us.

-based on Psalm 29

Life Group Study
BELIEVE: Dangerous Claims

OPENING
1) Have you ever been in a situation where you knew it would be dangerous to share your opinions or beliefs? If so, how did you handle the situation?
2) Have you ever been in a situation where it would have been better if you had said less than you did? If so, share the situation with the group?

GOING DEEPER
3) Read John 5:16-29. Jesus makes some very bold claims that got him in trouble with the Jewish leaders. What are those claims?
4) Why would those claims have angered the Jewish leaders so much?
5) Read John 8:48-59. Again, Jesus makes bold claims and angers the Jewish leaders so much that they want to stone him. What are His claims in this passage? What makes the Jewish leaders so angry?
6) What are the implications of what Jesus says here in John 8? (For more background, read Exodus 3:13-14).
7) For even more background, read and discuss John 10:24-33; Revelation 1:8, 22:13. (This is like extra credit! 😊).

APPLYING
8) How does exploring these passages impact your faith and belief? Put another way, how do Jesus’ claims influence and shape your faith? Think not just in terms of your mind, but your attitudes and actions.
