SERMON: Acts 18 “Lessons We Are Learning”

“In every situation there is a lesson we must learn.”

God Works in Places
God Uses People
God Has a Message

“Fear not, Jesus is the Christ!”
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. Review Paul’s description of the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. What kind of a place was Corinth? What does the phrase “to Corinthianize” mean? Is it a place you would be eager to minister in, or a place you would seek to avoid? Why?
2. As a group, reflect upon how God used people to further His cause, especially Aquila and Priscilla, Silas & Timothy, Claudius, and Gallio. In what ways were they used, were these ways known unto them, and what lessons do we learn in this for present ministry? In the cases of Aquila, Priscilla, Apollos, Silas, and Timothy in particular, what do we learn about Christian friendship and partnership? Where else in the Bible do we see these principles illustrated?
3. Review the vision Paul receives in vv. 9-10. Why might have this been necessary for Paul to hear this message at that time? How would this message serve to encourage Paul, and what principles does this event reveal for us? Read the following passages as you answer. How shall they encourage us? Review Genesis 26:24; Exodus 3:12; Joshua 1:9; Psalm 23:4, 46:1-2; 2 Chronicles 20:15, 17, 32:7-8; Daniel 3:19-28; Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5.
4. Review v. 21. What principle is illustrated by this verse and what is its importance for our lives? Whose hands are our lives truly in? Read the following texts as you discuss: Romans 1:10, 15:32; 1 Corinthians 4:19, 16:7; Hebrews 6:3; James 4:15; 1 Peter 3:17.
5. Apollos is introduced to us in this chapter. Two phrases used to describe him are “mighty in the Scriptures” and “fervent in spirit” (vv. 24-25). How might these 2 qualities be enhanced in our own lives? What else do learn about Apollos in this passage, and what other qualities does he possess that we should seek to emulate?
6. Individually, share with the group what the most significant “take away” from this week’s message and/or text is for you. Why is this so, and how will this impact your walk of faith?

We are a Christ centered community, whose heart is to be a place where individuals are knowing Jesus Christ, growing in Christ, and going out into the world with Christ, in order that lives would be transformed by the gospel and God would be glorified.
