1. A crisis brought on by a king

We see right away that this story ramps right up. What seems to be an insurmountable crisis is brought on by an unrelenting king. We learned from Pastor Tim a couple of weeks ago how God had used Joseph to bring the children of Israel down into Egypt. How God had blessed them and increased them in number. But now there is a king who does not remember Joseph and how Joseph had been used by God to save, not only the children of Israel but Egypt as well in the midst of a great famine.
2. Conviction and courage from unlikely heroines

It is unshakeable conviction of who God is and how God works in the world. It is unflinching courage in the face of what seems to be absolute power. This passage features five women! Women who dramatically alter the course of history. Four of them were Hebrew women who acted out of their conviction and their courage because of their faith in God. Four of these five were unlikely heroines because of their lowly position as midwives, as a slave woman, and as a little girl.
3. The great plot twist

These two ingredients of a great story come together and leave us with this great plot twist. This point is a little different. The first two kind of set the stage for us. Now we have the drama itself. This story is as dramatic and ironic as they come. It is a dramatic reversal. We love great reversal stories in all of literature, don’t we? We love them in sports. We love them in history, in biography. We love the rags to riches story. We love these reversal stories.

Implication for Life #2

What unlikely people has God brought into your life to help you in your times of crisis and difficulty? Be encouraged by this story of Moses that God is overseeing and planning your life. He who has begun a good work in you will compete it to the day of Jesus Christ.
Implication for Life #3

Be available to God to be used as an unlikely hero/heroine in his church. Stand firm in your convictions and be courageous in your witness.
Implication for Life #4

What great reversals has God performed in your life? Have you experienced the greatest reversal of all which is how God has brought you from spiritual death to spiritual life in Christ Jesus by believing the gospel? If not, trust him for that today.
