Title: Jesus Is Not Like Us
Scripture: Luke 4:1-13
Speaker: Nathan Miller, NathanM@ChristCommunityKC.org

>> You don’t have to lose anymore
>> The Battle is worse than we think
>> Jesus already won
"No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good… Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. After all, you find out the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not by giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down... We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means — the only complete realist." - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
>> We can win, too
>> Train your body
>> Train your mind
>> Train your heart
"The shell of his superficial securities was cracked and the abyss of iniquity was opened to him. The Way of the Heart" -Henri Nowen
"Jesus is “one who at his core can identify with us in our crucible of struggle. To women who have been victimized by the male power structures, Jesus responds by saying, ‘#MeToo.’ to men who struggle with the physiological yearnings of their loins, Jesus nods his head in solidarity. And as a fellow incarnational minority, Jesus stands with people of color, wrapping an arm around us and knowing exactly how it feels to be belittled and pillaged of ethnic dignity… I need this Jesus. Yes, I’m thankful for his deity, but I’m also grateful for his humanity. Jesus is God enough to have overcome his temptations and yet human enough to relate to mine.”
- Bryan Lorrits, Insider-Outsider
