HOPE IS MY STORY :: Hope Beyond Suffering

HOPE IS MY STORY :: Hope Beyond Suffering

What’s your story? All of us have seasons of ups and downs. But, there is something that God wants you to have in the midst of tough times. Hope is one of the strongest survival tools needed to get through life. It’s this belief that my circumstances will change. For six weekends, ThornCreek Church will be looking at the power of hope that’s found in scripture. This is not a shallow hope, it’s a hope that’s fixed on the God who loves you. You will be encouraged, renewed, and reminded, that we have this living God who wants us to abound in hope! Let hope by part of your story! Start a new habit this new year by attending church. God will fill you with hope!

1 Peter 5:10

The word “suffer” means:
To submit to or be forced to endure
Suffering is going through a painful experience...an experience you don’t want...and persevering. Living in it. Enduring.
It’s like living in 45 degrees below zero.
You just put on an EXTRA jacket. It’s part of life.

1 Peter 1:3

1 Peter 1:4-9

Peter tells us….
The purpose of trials is to prove the genuineness of our faith. Peter says, your faith is worth more than gold.
Another definition of suffering involves PRESSURE. It’s this idea that there are times when you are forced to live under circumstances that press into your faith.
One of the BIG MISTAKES people make when it comes to the bible is:
Most people cherry-pick scripture that relates to blessings, and gloss over the overwhelming evidence that suffering is part of every godly life. As a result, their decisions are focused more on comfort than sacrifice.
Immature spiritual people live for comfort.

John 16:33

There is a prodigal suffering that breaks down the prideful heart.
God uses this suffering to bring you back into His arms.

Luke 15:16

There is a suffering that leads to repentance.
God will allow you to reap the consequences of your own decisions.
He’ll let you suffer. God’s hope is you will come to your senses….and RETURN TO GOD.
BUT...You can also be a Christian and suffer.

Job 1:20

Job 17:1

There are different types of suffering:
Physical
Soul (Worse)
It’s a lot easier for a broken bone to heal than a broken soul
You just need to be aware that…being a Christian, and bear attacks, go together!

1 Peter 2:21

The REAL QUESTION is:
HOW will you RESPOND to the suffering?
You can give in to it, or become stronger because of it.

1 Peter 5:10

The suffering is temporary thing. But, God will do a lasting thing in you if you let Him.

Isaiah 43:2

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Don’t trade in God's faithfulness for your hurt.
Christ Himself will perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

Romans 5:3-5

The other side of spiritual maturity is suffering.

2 Corinthians 4:17

QUESTION:
Has it ever dawned on you that you will be able to minister to someone whose going through the SAME SUFFERING???
God will carry you through the “why’s” of life.

Romans 8:18
