For our four services in January we will be speaking about Christian Stewardship, “A Lifetime of Giving/ A Lifetime of Blessings.” Today, we will be speaking on our service to God and the other messages will cover - financially giving to the church of Christ, giving our best to God by being a faithful servant and then, giving our best to our families. While covering each of these areas of giving, our hope is that we can see clearly the blessings that God has promised to us who give faithfully. Our prayer is that we will come away from these four weeks seeking to be the best steward of our lives to God, and to His church and to our family, as well as to ourselves, realizing as we are faithful to God, He will always be faithful to us.

Maybe we should look at a definition of Christian Stewardship. Biblical Worldview of Stewardship can be defined as, “Utilizing and managing all the resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of His creation.”

Today we will look at “Giving Yourself to God.”
* Why should You give Yourself to God?
Giving yourself to God:
*Through Your Life
*Through Your Time
*Through Your Service
* Why should you give yourself to God? - Psalm 24:1

Because everything is God’s, then nothing is ours! There is nothing that is not God’s. The writer of 1 Chronicles 29:12 says,
God is clearly telling us that He has made the earth and everything that lives in it and rules over it all. It is by His strength and power that we have anything at all.
Our Father in heaven never changes and is faithful to give to all good and perfect gifts. We might possess something but it is God’s and it is gifted to us. What we have comes from God and if we would but recognize that then we would be more thankful and grateful to a faithful God who loves us more than we can really imagine.

With that said, why shouldn’t I give myself to God, seeking to give the very best in service and love. If He owns it all, and He does, and He gives to me freely what I have out of love and care for me, then I should, with a grateful heart, give myself fully to Him. Can you see any reason why I should not give myself to God?
You should give yourself to God:
* Through your life - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

This body of mine is not mine! Jesus has bought me by way of the Cross. He purchased me with His own blood and now I am His to do with as He sees fit. If I choose not to give my life completely to Him, I am in rebellion. Listen now, if I know to do good and do not do it, that is sin (James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”) and I am not giving Him my very best or my all. If I desire to live a Godly life I will seek to respond to His gift of salvation by loving Him and serving Him with all I am.

Is there something in your life today that God is identifying for you, this very moment, that you have rebelled against Him? Is there a sin you are aware of that you will not repent of, because you choose not to listen to the Spirit of God, as seen through His Word or heard of from His messenger? If there is a situation like that in your life, you can not give yourself fully to God!

Because, we are not our own, God expects us, as believers, to give our lives unconditionally, in obedience to Him, with no excuses, reasons or explanations to qualify our behavior. Let’s become obedient through repentance and not only give our lives fully to Him but live out daily to the Glory of God all we are and ever will be.

God wants our bodies to live in holiness and righteousness, that is “honoring God with your bodies.” Remember Romans 12:1,
God desires living sacrifices to dead ones. He wants us to worship Him with all we do with and through our bodies. Sacrifice means giving up, and in this case it is giving up to God through holy and pleasing lives before Him.

Where can you identify in your life, this moment, what you have to do to be that holy and pleasing life to God?
Is there a desire in your heart to be approved by God? If there is, one has to seek to be the best before the Lord one can be. Are you that worker before the Lord, seeking to please God not only in how you “believe about the Word,” but in how you “give your life to Him?”
You should give yourself to God:
*Through your time - Ephesians 5:15-16

God says time is short and full of evil and we are to do our best to be wise about our how we use this life that God has given us. Are you making the most of the time God has given, being wise not unwise?

What kind of time do you have for the Lord? You and I really have the same amount of time. It will really depend upon what we want to do with the 24 hours God has given us. There are good things for which you can use your time and there are some very unwise things you can commit to as well. The Bible says whatever good you do for the Lord with your time, don’t grow weary in doing it. Those things that you spend your time on, through the leadership of the Spirit of God, will bring a spiritual harvest.

Also, remember that James tells us that we are to beware the thought that we can control the time we have and not take into account what God‘s will is for our lives. James 4:13-17,
Here is where James says, “to know to do good and not do it, it is sin.” You and I can spend our time doing whatever we want and yet find that we are sinning against God. Let’s allow God to guide us to use what time we have as He desires.
You should give yourself to God:
* Through your service - Colossians 3:23-24

All that you and I do is for the Lord! We serve the Lord by serving others. Do you look at your service in the church as a service to the Lord Himself? How do you look at your service whether you are working in or on the building, working through the DTN, working with the youth or children or the nursery, serving meals or cleaning up after a meal, being a part of teams, counting money, putting baskets together for the shut-ins, working with R.A.s and G.A.s, teaching in some way, taking up the offering, singing in the choir, visiting people or a dozen other things that need to be done in a church? Christ is the head of the church and all is done for Him and the sharing of the Gospel of Christ.

Paul said in Ephesian 2:10,
God prepared you and me to do good works. He wants us to work for Him and do what we do because that is part of His plan for us. Remember, Paul also said in Colossians 3:17,
Whatever we do, we do for the glory of God and with a thankful heart. Even if it is changing a diaper or cleaning a toilet!

What is the attitude of your service to the Lord here at NABC? Our prayer is that if you haven’t thought about your life this way yet, that today you will consider giving yourself to God first, since He is the creator and owner of all there is, including you! Second, that you will recognize God’s call for your life to serve Him with gladness, giving Him the glory and to give all you are to Him through your life, time and service!

What are the blessings you and I receive through giving ourselves to God and serving Him? God has granted to each of us His grace, mercy and peace each day, and has shown us His love in the person of Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord of all. What more blessings do we need? Truly there are more blessings than we can count and as we go through this series we will remind you of the great and numerous blessings that come from the faithful hand of God.

With that in mind, are there some here today that do not have that personal relationship to this Jesus Christ? You don’t have the grace, mercy and peace of God? He loves you and has given His life on the cross to die for your sin and was buried and then rose from the dead, never to die again, to live at the right hand of God in heaven, awaiting all who have received Him as Lord and Savior to give them eternal life with the Father.

Invitation

Dear friend if you are reading this by way of the internet please know that you are loved and cared for. If you have no relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then I invite you to trust Him by faith and receive Him as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sin of everyone in the world that they may have eternal life. All of us have sinned and all are guilty before Almighty God who made us to have fellowship with Him. But sin broke that ability to have a relationship and Jesus has restored the possibility to know God personally through His sacrifice. Please know that if you will seek God and turn from your sin and pray He will respond with His love and give to you a personal relationship through your belief in His Son and the sacrifice He made just for you. He will call for a change in your life too. He wants you to follow Him, not the world, not your own desires, but to follow Jesus. That brings a life change when you turn from sin and self and by faith believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. There is no Savior without Him being Lord of your life. Your willingness to change by following Him daily in your life will be the proof of your faith. When life throws its curves your way and you have found yourself broken by others or by the world let us introduce you to the only One who can help you…Jesus!
